According to Grow NYC, a non-profit that promotes environmental programs throughout the city, the greenmarket farmer’s market may be returning to the World Trade Center as soon as August. The greenmarket once served as a fun destination as well as a resources for residents and passersby to get farm fresh food. Post 9/11, the market attempted a few reincarnations around the area but was unable to host as many vendors as it did in the 80’s and 90’s. However several key names that are leading the downtown area’s development have addressed its eventual return.

According to Downtown Express, Westfield‘s Senior Vice President of Development Michael McNaughton stated “We’ve been in discussion, and we feel very optimistic about bringing back the fresh farmer’s market to the site,”at a Community Board 1 Planning Committee meeting on Apr. 11.

It is also projected that the market will try to bring back several of the vendors that sold their wares at the downtown site prior to 9/11, symbolizing a true recovery from the damages of years past.
