Compared to last year’s constant and cold weather conditions, this winter has seemed pretty tame thus far. But thanks to prospective storm Jonas, the Mid-Atlantic and the East Coast could be experiencing considerably heavy snowstorms this weekend. Though one to two feet are projected to fall across Mid-Atlantic areas like Maryland and Virginia, it is unclear exactly how much precipitation the East Coast can expect. The storm will likely be affecting NYC on Friday and Saturday with snow predictions ranging from mere inches to blizzard proportions.

The National Weather Service has advised residences from Washington DC to the tip of Long Island to prepare for crippling gusts of wind and potential power outages. They have also warned that the New York region could experience eight to twelve inches of snowfall and that traveling during the shorm could be very dangerous.

Though only time can tell how tough conditions will get in NYC, it is always advisable for urbanites to prepare for the worst to ensure that they have proper amounts of food, water and supplies should difficult weather ensue. Mayor Bill de Blasio and the city’s emergency management team have advised that residents create a winter preparedness bag filled with supplies for blizzards and power outages. So whether the weather is brutal or mild, it is always safe to be prepared so that you can have a cozy snow day instead of a disaster.
