The Lower Manhattan Historical Society will be hosting a Great American Independence Day Parade honoring American Independence and French visitors. The organization will be marching along the historic downtown streets and raising the American and French Flags along the way in honor of the visiting of the French Frigate Hermione and the French role in American Independence.
The Hermione is the largest and most accurate Tall Ship replica in the world. It is a recreation of General Lafayette’s 18th century ship of the same name and is currently sailing around the world from France. The Hermione’s stop in New York City coinciding with American Independence Day makes it the perfect time to reflect on how French allies helped America win the Revolutionary War. During the Revolution, the French navy sent ships like the Hermione to aid America in declaring her freedom from Britain.
The parade will take place Friday July 3 at 11 a.m. The parade route will begin at South Street Seaport and end at Bowling Green. More information can be found here.
