Cuomo Plans to Makeover and Modernize Penn Station

Wednesday afternoon at Madison Square Garden, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced his ambitions of renovating Pennsylvania Station as part of an extensive plan to renew New York’s infrastructure.

Some of the proposed renovation ideas include creating a glittering glass-walled entrance on Eight Ave, upgrading the various shops within the transit center and building new entrances. He additionally proposed for the James A. Farley Post Office to become part of the station complete with shops and a waiting area for Amtrak passengers. The plan calls for developers to submit proposals for the right to the renovation and a financial plan for the undertaking should be revealed next week.

The station is a large part of local commuter’s lives, who rely on it when they leave the city in the morning and come back at night. And as one of the largest transit hubs in the country, it is definite symbol of the city for out-of-town travelers. Elevating its appearance and the efficiency to compare to its further uptown counterpart Grand Central Station would certainly elevate the city’s infrastructural integrity as the governor planned.
