Poets House seeks to document the wealth and diversity of modern poetry, to stimulate dialogue on issues of poetry in culture, and to cultivate a wider audience for poetry.”

If you aren’t a poetry fan, you may not have heard of the library in Battery Park City, which was founded in 1985 by U.S poet laureate Stanley Kunitz and arts administrator Elizabeth Kray. It is composed of 60,000 volumes of poetry and is free/ open to the public. According to their website, they are “the most comprehensive, open stacks collections of poetry in the United States.”

The Poet House welcomes all kinds of people whether you are a beginner or a polished poetry fan. There are many exciting opportunities to immerse yourself in poetry with multiple master classes and workshops. Upcoming master classes will be taught by Jerome Rothenberg, A. Van Jordan and Terese Svoboda. There are also a number of talks, performances and panel discussions that invite famous poets from around the world to speak.
