With over 200 different shows throughout the city, the International Fringe Festival is the place to see innovative theater. The festival has something for every taste, especially ones that veer outside the usual genre box. One of this year’s themes is biography so check out the bio-plays about Sylvia Plath, and Jackson Pollack. We are also definitely going to see the stage adaptation of David Foster Wallace’s essay “A Supposedly Fun Thing I’ll Never Do Again.” Tickets start at $18.
2. Bibliophile SOS
St. Mark’s Bookshop (Alphabet City)

Established in 1977, St. Mark’s Bookshop, located in the historic First Houses in Alphabet City, is one of few surviving independent bookstores in New York. Recently is has appealed to the public for help. Since we are serious bibliophiles, we are braving the heat to buy some specialty books and show support. Come browse the shop’s vast collection of independent publishers, art and films books. You won’t be sorry you came.
Whitney Museum (Meatpacking)

The new Whitney Museum location is pretty impressive and now we have even more reason to keep coming back. The new menu at Untitled from chef Michael Anthony (Gramercy Tavern) has been getting a lot of well-deserved hype. The summer menu is vegetable-heavy, cut with rich meats and tender fish. Walled almost entirely inside glass, the space is open and airy, complementing the light and carefully arranged dishes Kale Salad, Marinated Mussels with basil sauce and Artichoke Fettuccine.
4. Digital Lives
Bitforms Gallery (Lower East Side)

This fascinating group exhibition takes a look at digital immortality–our obsession with recording our life on social and digital media. The works from artists like from Daniel Canogar, Sara Ludy and Andrea Wolf present an eerily-ghostlike version of what our lives may become. FREE.
5. New Rooftop Bar on the Bowery

We like Rooftop 93, the new rooftop bar at the Wyndham Garden Hotel, because it offers two spectacular spaces to enjoy a drink. You get stunning open air views of Manhattan Bridge on one side with Midtown on the other, while indoors, on the floor below, you can admire the same through the floor to ceiling windows — for those extra hot nights, or when the weather is less than ideal. Now grab that tangy pomegranate Skyview Cosmo and take in the view.
