It also allows you to share your great experiences with people who have the same interests as you; people in your “tribes.” Gogobot’s ‘GoGo This Week’ feature empowers you to discover and take advantage of great events, openings and exhibits throughout the city each week. Here are some exciting events and sites to check out in downtown New York this week, courtesy of Gogobot. Visit the website or download the app for more GoGo This Week upcoming events.

1. Tribeca Film Festival
Check site for complete list of venues
Wed, Apr 13th-Sun, April 24th (check site for showtimes)

In addition to over 100 films and documentaries, the Tribeca Film Festival hosts talks, art exhibits, (this year we’ll see crazy virtual reality and interactive installations) and the Tribeca Family Festival Street Fair, to say nothing of the parties and this year’s epic “Taxi Driver” cast reunion. So, our must sees are: “AWOL”, “Madly”, “Kicks”, “After Spring”, “High-Rise”, “Ghostheads”, “Night School”, “Custody” and “Love True.”

2. Save the Earth
Union Square (Union Square)
Sun, Apr 17th from 12-7pm

Want to learn about ways to make your life and your city greener? Swing by Union Square this Sunday where dozens of exhibitors, interactive displays, and green campaigns will be promoting a greener and healthier New York lifestyle.

3. Wine on Wheels
City Winery (SoHo)
Sat Apr 16th from 11am-4pm

What’s better than a wine tasting event with over 200 wines from over 30 regions served by the finest New York sommeliers? A wine tasting event that gives 100% of the proceeds to Wheeling Forward, an organization that helps people with disabilities “experience life to the fullest and enable them to see possibility where others see insurmountable obstacles.”

4. Secret Garden Party
Marble Cemetery (East Village)
Sat, Apr 16 from 3:30-7:30

Obscura Day is an opportunity to do and explore something new and strange, obscure, if you will. Well, how about a secret Victorian garden party at an East Village cemetery this Saturday? Obscure enough? This little al fresco fete at the Marble Cemetery will celebrate Obscura Day with butterfly pinning and flower crown classes, drinks, savory treats, “absinthe-tastings, exotic birds, stereoscopic viewings, croquet, traditional parlour games, and other eccentric wonders from the past.”

5. 4heads Art Benefit Party
104 Delancey Street (Lower East Side)
Wed, Apr 13th from 7-10pm

Artist-run organization 4heads, the brilliant minds behind the Governors Island Art Fair, is hosting its first ever benefit event and, trust us, you don’t want to miss it! Raise money to support great art and enjoy performances from Jessy Carolina and The Hot Mess, Kate Brehm, Erik Foss (DJ); photobooth with Ventiko and her peacock, Dexter; and complimentary food and drinks.

6. Rabbit Invasion
Brookfield Place (Battery Park)
Sun, April 17-Sat, April 30th

If you find yourself running into giant glowing bunnies in Battery Park City this Sunday, fear not. The 7 piece public art installation “Intrude” is the work of Australian artist Amanda Parer. We are glad to see animals (albeit made of nylon) “intruding” on humans for a change. FREE

7. Whiskies of the World
Astor Center (NoHo)
Sat, Apr 16th from 3-6pm

Led by whisky expert extraordinaire Robin Robinson, this two hour class comes with multiple whisky tastings that compare and contrast regional influences on color, flavor and aroma of whisky producers around the world. For newbies (like us) and connoisseurs alike, this class will take goers on an informative whisky global tour. $89 includes one cocktail, at least 6 whisky tasting and small bites.

8. Street Food History
Starr Foundation Hall at The New School (Union Square)
Tues, Apr 12th at 6:30pm

Always in a rush, never a minute to spare, New Yorkers eat on the run. The popular street food trend that has introduced multinational culinary delights to urban cities is rooted in the story of early immigrants offering their fellow countrymen a taste of home. In this fascinating talk, food historians and experts will discuss the rich history of street food in New York and offer goers a sampling of popular street food. Tickets start at $10.
