Big Apple Circus

Big Apple Circus — formed by Paul Binder and Michael Christensen 38 years ago — announced last week that the company is in critical financial condition. The company will be forced to close unless it raises $2 million over the next two months.

Per Big Apple Circus’ Executive Director Will Maitland Weiss, the organization has done public with a major fundraising appeal. The website for such is www.savethecircus.org, where supporters can respond to this emergency appeal.

“Our ticket sales in New York City, including Lincoln Center and Queens, where we are performing right now, have remained steady, so we know our audience is still there,” Weiss said within this announcement. However, ticket sales only cover a portion of the Circus’ operating expenses and, like other non-profits, Big Apple Circus relies on the generous support of many individuals and public and private institutions.

He added: “If you believe in what we do, don’t let the Circus close. If you believe our work enriches the lives of children and adults of all ages, inside and outside the tent, please keep the Big Apple Circus alive. Go to www.savethecircus.org and give.”
