Be taken back in musical history and experience a night of classical music, featuring greats such as Mozart and Beethoven, hosted by the American Classical Orchestra.
On Thursday March 12 at 8pm at the Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, the American Classical Orchestra will be presenting “As the Masters Heard It,” a program featuring Schubert’s Symphony No. 9, ‘Great,’ Mozart’s Mass in C, ‘Coronation,’ and work by Beethoven, along with performances by soloists and the American Classical Orchestra chorus.
The program will be conducted by Thomas Crawford, and will feature performances by world renowned soloists such as Sherezade Panthaki, soprano; Sarah Craft, alto; Marc Molomot, tenor and Michael Kelly, baritone.
“Mozart’s Coronation Mass, his most popular and tuneful short mass, is performed by the acclaimed ACO Chorus and guest soloists. The Mass was written in 1779 while Mozart was employed at the Salzburg Cathedral, hence its grandeur. The Coronation Mass remains a favorite because it moves seamlessly through a wide spectrum of emotions and dynamics,” said Crawford, the founder of ACO and Music Director, according to a press release.
Schubert’s Great No. 9 symphony will be performed on woodwind instruments from the 19th century, giving it a “woodsy” flavor. The speed of the finale takes on new heights when performed on gut strings and lighter bows.
