See Lupita Nyong’o in the Play “Eclipsed” at The Public

Academy Award winning actress Lupita Nyong’o stars in Eclipsed, a war drama by the award-winning playwright/actress Danai Gurira.

Set during the end of the Liberian Civil War, the play follows the lives of the captive wives of a rebel officer, who form their own community among the chaos. Directed by Liesl Tommy, the play explores the women’s strength as they confront a war in which they are victims.

Nyong’o, who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in the critically acclaimed 12 Years a Slave, plays a character known only as Girl, a runaway during the war who ends up a captive wife of the rebel officer. She and the other wives give an insightful performance of what it means to know yourself in a time of crisis.

The play runs until November 8 and will have a lottery for a pair of $10 tickets.

Nyong’o is also involved in the upcoming film “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which is slated to open in theaters come December.

Gurira stars on AMC show “The Walking Dead,” which returned for its sixth season earlier this month.
