The New York Classical Theatre is returning for another season of unique and inventive theatre experiences, to Battery Park. Audience members are invited to experience plays by William Shakespeare, in a new way, as the New York Classical Theatre utilizes the backdrop of Battery Park to bring Measure for Measure to life.

New York Classical Theatre is a roving theatre company. Their Measure for Measure performance starts in front of Castle Clinton, but with each set change, the audience follows the actors to a new location. They seamlessly integrate a number of Battery Park landmarks into their performance, illuminating the play and the beauty of the park. Actors enter through the middle of the sea of audience members and utilize the outdoor space.

Measure for Measure tells the story of a city rapt in corruption. To test the fairness of the city, the Duke goes undercover as a monk and leaves a deputy in charge. But when his deputy unfairly sentences the gentleman Claudio to death, and blackmails Claudio’s sister Isabella, a comedy of errors and deception unfolds.

Measure for Measure will run in Battery Park until August 9, Tuesdays through Sundays. The following week, the performance will move to Brooklyn Bridge Park. All performances are free. For more information please visit their website.
