Starting on Saturday, February 20th, the New Museum, located at 235 Bowery is offering an innovative opportunity for people to broaden their cultural horizons. The Museum will host the first stop of an internationally touring exhibition titled Staring Back at the Sun. This two day, four-part event highlights video-art from 35 different artists. This collaborative effort culminates forty-two years (1970-2012) of video and film shot in Israel and focuses on the activist impulse in video-art making.

The exhibition will cover and examine the socio-political state of affairs through an array of themes including the impact of free market politics on Israeli culture, political conflict in mass media and the liberalization of the economy. Upon the conclusion of the event on Sunday, a round table discussion will be held in order to give an in depth view on the impact that video has had as an agent of globalization.
Artis, the producer and curator of the event, is an independent, non-profit organization founded in 2004. Their mission is to broaden the international awareness and understanding of the contemporary visual art of Israel.
