Keigwin and Company to Come to Joyce Theatre

by | Nov 13, 2015 | Culture, Entertainment

“Intricate, neat, rapturous,” is how The New York Times  pinpoints the energy of Keigwin and Company. It is explosive and continues to add to the expansive definition of contemporary dance.

The company was founded in 2003 by artistic director Larry Keigwin and associate director Nicole Wolcott. Though Keigwin does not have the stereotypical dance background, he has performed at a number of both renowned and obscure venues, including the Metropolitan Opera, Broadway and a number of clubs.

His company not only captures the stylish approaches of contemporary dance, but also a flavor of theatre.

“K+C reaches national and international audiences and invigorates diverse communities with a refreshing vision of dance that embodies a theatrical sensibility of wit, style, and heart,” as stated on the Keigwin and company website.

It is not shocking that the company also embodies a theatrical aspect. Keigwin has choreographed for a number of musical productions including Tales of the City at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, an off Broadway production of Rent, and the popular If/Then Broadway musical.

The company will be making a debut at the Joyce theatre starting from December 8th-13th. The show will feature Keigwin’s solo Subject to Change and other company works such as Sidewalk and Exit like an animal.
