If you find yourself looking for a summer hobby to keep you busy, try taking up one of the many creative classes at Make Shop. These classes will teach you to do number of crafty talents, so you will walk away with more than just a nice homemade product. You will have a new skill to boast about!

Make Shop offers classes in many different crafts. For example, there is a leather working class taking place this Sunday. The workshop will be six hours long and costs $240 plus supplies. The class will teach you how to create a bag and matching wallet, along with the basics of leather working.

This isn’t the only fashion themed class offered by the Make Shop. In Sewing I, students will learn to make a “naughty secretary” skirt, either in three two-hour classes or one six-hour class. In Sewing II, students will take it a step further and make a complete dress.

If you’re not into fashion, don’t worry! There are plenty of basic sewing classes such as Skip the Tailor: Simple Alteration, Intro to Sewing Machine, Tote Bag Workshop: Session 101 and a Two-Hour Pillow Making Workshop.

Many of the workshops at Make Shop are open to beginners, so don’t worry if this is your first time crafting. However, don’t be surprised if you get the urge to continue crafting once you start! It is an extremely calming and rewarding experience once you learn. Hours of work turn into a beautiful handcrafted piece to show off to everyone around you.

The shop is located at 195 Chrystie Street, Suite #501. They open 10 minutes before a class, but if you want to check out the shop before signing up, go ahead and e-mail them! If this sounds like the kind of activity you’re looking for, go ahead and check out their calendar of events and find out which workshops are best for you.

Have fun and happy crafting!
