Dance is a cathartic art form; something that first resides internally in a person and then is exposed externally to the world.
In 2010, an earthquake hit Haiti which nearly killed 230,000 people and injured 300,000. Gaspard Louis, who is founder and artistic director of Gaspard and Dancers, has found his own cathartic way to respond to this tragedy.

Although he is from the Pilobolus Dance Theater which focuses more on movement that is aesthetically pleasing, Gaspard embodies movement that is more lyrical and fluid.
Gaspard Louis, a native of Haiti, is widely known for being a dancer with the renowned Pilobolus Dance Theater. In an effort to create his own artistic vision, he formed his own company in 2009, which resides in North Carolina. He has also choreographed for Free Space Dance Company in New Jersey and Kentucky University Dance Ensemble.

Three of the choreographer’s pieces will be featured as a trilogy at Pace’s Schimmel Center this weekend September 25th and September 26th at 7:30 pm. The trilogy, “L’Espirit,” “Souke,” and “Annatations,” all will highlight the visceral response of dealing with tragedy; like that of the one that took place in Haiti.
