Argentinian President Mauricio Macri and Elie Hirschfeld were partners in the redevelopment of Riverside South

This week Macri was invited to The White House to meet with President Donald Trump for vital trade talks, prompting the Commander-in-Chief to comment that the two countries will be “great friends, better than ever before!”

It was Elie Hirschfeld who introduced the two men decades ago after Macri had partnered with Hirschfeld Properties in the redevelopment of Penn Yards from raw rail and industrial to the residential mixed use haven that is the renamed Riverside South area of today.

Argentinian President Mauricio Macri.

Mauricio was a visionary then and remains so today,” said. “We turned that property around together. He was a very popular and successful businessman and those traits have served him well in his current status as statesman.”

“My offices at the time were located in Trump Tower. I was happy to be able to introduce him to Donald.”

Elie Hirschfeld and Trump worked with President Macri as partners in the 1980s.

Trump later purchased the Macri share of the development in 1985 and Hirschfeld Properties finished the project with the future president.

“That relationship having endured will now play a vital part of diplomatic and trade relations with Argentina and help our country develop strong economic partnerships in Argentina,” Elie Hirschfeld remarked.

“And it all started right here in New York.”
