by | Oct 30, 2015 | Culture, Entertainment

Let’s face it. Every family has their fair share of problems. Barbecue an off broadway musical written by Robert O’hara showing at the Public Theater demonstrates the ups and downs of the never ending family dysfunction. It is highly entertaining, lively and emotional.

According to Time Out CRITICS’PICK on the public theater’s website it is, “An intervention with love, insults and whiskey. A RAWLY FUNNY new comedy!”

How serious can an audience member take a family intervention located in a park? Exactly. You can’t. Barbecue is meant to be comical but also stresses the serious effect that substance abuse can have on a family.  The family sits in a park around their sister, Barbara who battles with drug addiction. This is a story of her journey and how her family must try to save her.

The play will feature Becky Ann Baker (Girls), Marc Damon Johnson (Radio Golf), Arden Myrin (Chelsea Lately), Paul Niebanck (A Picture of Autumn), Tamberla Perry (By the Way, Meet Vera Stark), Constance Shulman (Orange Is the New Black), Heather Alicia Simms (As the World Turns), Samantha Soule (And I and Silence), Benja Kay Thomas (Bootycandy) and Kim Wayans (In Living Color).

The play will be closing November 1st so don’t miss your opportunity to buy tickets! More information can be found here.
