Sick of the usual crazy bar scene that comes with St. Patrick’s Day? Or tired of the cliche, overcrowded parade that takes place in Midtown? With the holiday just around the corner, try out some of these alternative ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day around town!

Comedy:

If you’re looking for some comedy, head to Too Ra Loo Ra Loo: Improvished Irish Blarney on March 17 at 7pm. Tickets are $5 at the PIT, where comedians and improv actors Lorraine Cink and Julie Sharbutt act out different scenarios acting in what they pretend to be an old-time Irish pub. Enjoy some brews while you listen (and laugh) to these performances!

Movies:

Movies is also always a good time! Make St. Patty’s day awesomely creepy with a screening of Leprechaun on March 17th at 9:30pm at Nitehawk Cinema for $15. This horror flick features Jennifer Aniston, pre-Friends!

History/Tours:

Take a more historic approach to St. Patrick’s day by exploring the places where many Irish immigrants lived in the Lower East Side during the 19th century. The St. Patrick’s Weekend Irish New York Tour will be taking place on both March 14th and 15th at 1pm and 2pm, respectively. Tickets are $20 where you’ll see the former Five Points neighborhood, where many Irish gangs held court in the 1800s.

Live Music/Performances:

Expect a lively night at The Celtic Appalachia on March 14th, with performances at 2:30 and 8pm.  Check out the Sympony Space in the Upper West side, where Irish bands from all over rock out for your listening pleasure. Tickets range from $40-$60.

You’d think such a fancy, Irish-themed burlesque show and jazz performance would cost you, but this one is free. Just make a dinner reservation at Macao Trading Co. and soak in the talent at Dandy Wellington Presents: The Second Annual Black Irish Ball on March 16 at 9pm.

Parades:

Forget about the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Midtown, instead, check out the one in Brooklyn! Flaunt your Irish pride at Brooklyn St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 15th at 1pm this year for a friendlier celebration.

Food:

Foodies discover the lesser known St. Joseph through Irish cuisine with Little Ireland and Little Italy History and Tasting on March 14th and 15th at 12 and 2:45pm for only $28!

If you’re looking to do something interesting and non-cliche for St. Patrick’s Day, then definitely check out one of these alternatives!
