The 2014 James Beard Foundation Awards will be held on May 2 at Gotham Hall (1356 Broadway). Known to be ‘The Oscars” of the food realm, the award ceremony highlights achievements in food books, broadcasting, and journalism throughout the nation. This year’s awards will be presented by Lenox Tableware and Gifts. These are our favorites for Best New Chef this year: Paul Virant of Vie Restaurant (Great Lakes), Dan Kluger of ABC Kitchen (New York City), Naomi Pomeroy of Beast (Northwest), Sue Zemanick of Gautreau’s (South) and Edward Lee of 610 Magnolia (Southeast). For Best New Restaurant our pick is Estela (NYC). To check out the entire list of the nominees click here.

Following the awards, a gala will be held on May 5 at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theatre (20 Lincoln Center Plaza), open to the public. Tickets vary in price between James Beard Foundation Members ($425) and the general public ($475). Get your tickets here.

The James Beard Foundation was named after James Beard (1903-1985), a champion in American cuisine who helped educate and mentor generations of professional chefs and food enthusiasts. Today, the foundation is a national non-profit organization that provides culinary scholarships and a ‘performance space’ in Greenwich Village, as well as organizing national food conferences and workshops.
