Expert Skincare Advice for Summery, Glowing Skin

When it comes to beauty, having healthy skin is a must. After all, you can’t build a beautiful skyscraper without building a solid foundation first, right? In order to find out some expert skincare advice regarding healthy skin, how to achieve it, and what products really work, I had the pleasure of interviewing COS BAR‘s skin expert Maria Campitiello. Through following these tips, you can achieve that summery, glowing look that we all long for each year!

Expert Skincare Advice

What are your top three holy grail products for achieving glowing, summery skin?

Diamond Instant Glow from Natura Bisse is perfect all year round glow-getting treatment.  You need to exfoliate, even in the summer, and this gentle chemical peel comes in a glass ampule, so it’s stable and pure.  Spread over cleansed skin, leaveon for 8 minutes and rinse.  Follow that with a radiance ampule, the contents of which are absorbed after a minute, then do the same with the lift ampule.  In 10 minutes, you have a result that rivals the glowing, fresh complexion you have after, a facial.

Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Glow Drops transform and revitalizes dull skin.  It has ingredients that will optimize skin tone, refine the pores and create a visible youthful radiance.  You can cocktail it with other serums, add to your face cream or foundation, or just tap it into your skin directly.  It creates a beautiful, natural glow without a trace of shimmer.

Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Glow Stick is your glow on the go – a double ended stick with a bright poppy colored creamy blush on one end, and the most gorgeous golden radiance highlighter on the other.  You can apply with fingers or a brush and adjust the intensity to customize your glow.

For those of us to love to sunbathe; how harmful is the sun on our skin?

It’s not great.  I recommend avoiding the face and neck.  The ReVive Solaire Superieur SPF 50+++ is awesome over your normal skincare routine.  It’s super protection and has a light, primer-like texture that wears well under makeup.  Sunleya SPF 50 by Sisley is a complete anti-aging moisturizer that happens to provide great protection, too.

What is the most important step in a given skincare routine?

I believe that cleansing is the most important step.  It’s important to wash off the day’s dirt, pollutants and irritants so that your skin is free to repair and restore itself.

At what age should one start practicing a skincare regimen to avoid wrinkles and maintain healthy, young-looking skin?

You’re never too young for sun protection.  Eye-cream is important by your mid 20’s because the skin around the eyes is thin and delicate.  You want to keep it moist and plump to counterbalance all the rubbing during allergy season and the tugging you do when you wing your liner.

What other products, besides skincare, would you recommend to someone looking to take care of their skin from a holistic standpoint?

Skincare Advice

Tata Harper Body Oil.  Organic, clean and natural – it does a great job keeping skin supple with a soft glow.  Also, 8Greens and Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Skin Food are supplements designed to lower inflammation in the body, which leads to better (much better) skin.

What products would you recommend to someone on a budget, but who is willing to splurge on one or two items that will truly make a difference in his/her skin?

Amore Pacific Future Response Eye Cream – two chambers, one with an eye cream per day with SPF that protects and prevents damage, the other with a night cream for eyes that repairs and restores.

La Prairie Line Interception Power Duo – same concept.  Two chambers that dispense separately, one with a day cream and one with a night cream.  The textures are amazing and the products work!
