On November 19th, food critics, socialites, and foodies all gathered at SD26 to celebrate Tony and Marisa May’s 25th Annual White Truffle Gala. I had the pleasure of attending again for the 4th time and this was by far the greatest one yet. From the time I walked through the door, servers with an array of delectable hors d’oeuvres greeted me. Trays of Tartrá Piemontese, Wild Mushroom & Fontina Crostino and Baccala filled fingerling potatoes flew all around the room. My favorite, a Foie Gras served on a toasted brioche with port wine reduction was also served. My mouth is longing as I type this for yet another scrumptious bite.
SD26 had 250 guests in attendance last night, all White Truffle connoisseur’s from as far as Italy and beyond. Making my way through the cocktail party I was met by Pascal Riffaud, founder of Today’s Epicure, an exclusive members-only dining concierge service offering reservations only at the best New York City restaurants.
Also in attendance, Sandrino Romanelli, the world famous trifulou who flew in from Asti. Sandrino delivered more than 15 pounds of truffles that were served throughout the evening. Also in attendance was a member of the founding family of Dean & DeLuca groceries, Giorgione DeLuca and Hector Longoria, owner of Provocateur Nightclub.
By the time the night was over I felt as though I had died and gone to heaven. After shaving fresh truffles over Beef Tartare, Chick Pea Ravioli, Venison, and even Honey Mousse I couldn’t eat another bite. But I couldn’t leave without having a little wine to wash it down!
