Goop Pop-up Comes to Downtown NYC

Word on the street is that goop will be hosting a pop-up shop in SoHo the weekend, to help spread the word of their new (all natural) fragrance line.

The line is unique because all of the ingredients were extracted from a plant by steam or heat extraction cold pressing, or carbon dioxide extraction. And, as goop explains, the FDA doesn’t define the word natural, so many of the fragrances on the market that claim they are “natural” are in fact full of ingredients that are not truly natural when compared to the ingredient list of the new goop line.

New Yorkers are invited to stop by the Shiso Psychic (by goop) pop-up shop celebrating the launch of goop’s new fragrance, Edition 02, Shiso, designed to create clairvoyance and fend off old lovers.

Founder of goop, Gwyneth Paltrow co-created the fragrance line with Douglas Little, master visionary and craftsman. The fragrance is a true disrupter in the world of fragrances. As Paltrow puts it:

“It has a great, spicy green quality to it. In combination with the other plant essences it smells amazing, but also channels other powers, like joy, healing, and clairvoyance.”

Visitors will be offered free readings from renowned psychic, Maria Papapetros, and enjoy a unique shopping experience and sensorial journey.

When Saturday, April 29th from 11AM – 8PM
Where 252 Mott Street (between Prince + Houston)

Target officially opened its first flexible format store in Lower Manhattan — as located at 225 Greenwich Street and Murray Street — on Oct. 5 with a grand ribbon cutting ceremony featuring Target executives and Community Board 1 President, Anthony Notaro. The Target mascot, Bullseye the dog, made a special appearance as well. The flexible format was introduced in 2012 and currently operates 18 stores in the United States with more than a dozen more slated to open in the future.

Target hosted a series of pop-up shops, leading up to the soft opening including a Nail It Up salon in SoHo, which featured its new nail polish line and complimentary mini-manicures were offered to the public, as followed by Twist It Up, with yoga classes and a giveaway of yoga mats. Mix It Up featured a Chobani Café and a DJ, while Warm It Up invited the public to pick up a pair of free gloves, for the upcoming winter season.

The 45,000 square foot retail store has two floors, including a Chobani Café. All major departments are represented at the new location including toys, baby goods such as diapers, formula and basic essentials, plus apparel and shoes for the whole family, beauty products, housewares, household products, pet supplies, school supplies electronics including flat screen t.v.’s and mobile devices. There is also a CVS pharmacy and a large grocery and fresh produce section as well as a “grab and go” offering for busy residents and office workers.

This new location is catering to the locals with furniture that is designed for smaller living spaces and a curated offering of products for city living. The store is also offering in-store pick up for online orders on target.com. Essentially, this convenience will allow shoppers the same variety of products that they would expect at a larger Target location, with the exception of grocery items. The store offers escalators and an elevator, making it convenient for shoppers with strollers.

Target is known for its affordability and pricing seems to be on par with other Target locations in the Tri-State area. The Tribeca location will also offer seasonal items as well and the store is currently selling Halloween costumes and candy, which is sure to be a hit with locals that need last minute supplies for the upcoming holiday.

Check Out the Annual Halloween Candy Buy Back

Halloween tends to be a favorite holiday for kids of all ages, namely because of its connection to collecting candy and the amount of sugary treats they collect from trick or treating. Parents on the otherhand may not be as thrilled about the holiday, specifically because of the amount of candy their children receive. As a result, there tends to be many discussions about the amount of candy kids are allowed to eat, save and sometimes, throw away. The dental office of Dr. Bronsky in Tribeca has come up with a creative solution, bound to make both children and parents happy. To learn more about their efforts to collect candy and donate to the military, read more by visiting FiDi Families.

Plum Print: “Creativity Can Last a Lifetime”

One of the first things a parent of a preschooler will realize is that children and artwork go hand in hand. The second realization is that a large amount of arts and crafts projects will be brought home on a regular basis. This means that parents will have to make tough decisions on what art will remain in the house and what art will be tossed in the trash.

Carolyn Lanzetta, a former Wall Street trader, was at a loss on what to do with the children’s art keepsakes. Lanzetta asked her friends with older kids for advice and none of them had a solution on how to deal with the volume of art that was piling up at home.

As the mother of two girls explained, she decided to photograph the art that her preschoolers were bringing home and incorporate the massive amounts of art into a photo book. As word spread about her photo books, she began getting requests to make them for others. In 2012, she partnered with co-founder Meg Ragland, who is a former health and fitness editor, and together they decided to launch a new and innovative business called Plum Print.

The customer submits a request for a “Plum Parcel”, which is an overnight box that is shipped to the home, which the customer fills with their child’s artwork. The art-filled box is then sent back to Plum Print for the photo book creation. Their unique business allows art projects to be saved and photographed, and the result is a beautiful coffee table book.

Kids love to see their work displayed so elegantly and parents love the books for gifts and for keeping a snapshot of their children’s projects. Children often burst with pride when they see their artwork on full display via the Plum Print book.

With a new brand ambassador program as well as a school partnership program, Plum Print is creating amazing programs for families and school age children. The company continues to expand and grow, and is on track for another successful year.

How do you balance work life versus home life?

Balancing work with children is a challenge and many working moms can relate to the struggle of finding the ability to separate family time versus work time. Lanzetta makes it a priority to focus on her kids in the evening. She tries to equally balance her work and family time by focusing on each one separately, and taking a chunk of time out of her day to solely concentrate on family.

What have you done to make the transition from work life versus home life easier?

One idea that has worked for Lanzetta is establishing an office outside of her home. However, she acknowledges that this can be tough financially for a start up. But, she appreciates the separation of home versus work, and it has allowed her to focus on where to draw the line between work and home.

Favorite Spots with Kids

Hudson River Park, Ice Skating at the Standard, Chelsea Piers Water Park, Gramercy Park

NYC Favorite Museums

Children’s Museum of the Arts, The Bronx Zoo, The Math Museum

Life in NYC

Favorite destinations covered a wide net. But, her appreciation extends from specific places and more about the enormity of the city itself and the ability to be outside with her kids. She loves the diversity of the city, and the fact that NYC inspires creativity. Anything outdoors makes her appreciate the city life. Getting the kids on scooters and bikes is always fun for her and her family.

Plum Print can be found online and also be on the lookout for their new brand ambassadors!
