New York summer and outdoor fairs are by no means mutually exclusive. Find an unoccupied space in NYC and expect for the eventual convergence of food trucks and retail stalls. There’s a new addition to the street fair lineup; the Hester Street Fair will host food, clothing and accessory vendors every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Oct. 31.

Over a century ago, Hester Street housed pushcarts and street vendors, who almost exclusively sold fish. Although it has transformed from being the former fish market, Hester Street has retained its communal spirit.

Within the packed space you’ll find numerous cuisines to sample. If you’re in the mood to sample food from South America, Chuta Madre crafts homemade Ecuadorian pork and turkey sandwiches. All their products use natural, cage-free meat.

Get a taste of Southeast Asia with Khao Man Gai NY. The husband and wife duo serve Thai chicken and rice. The organic free-range chicken is prepared with garlic and ginger, and is served over Thai jasmine rice.

Desserts ranging from pastries to Filipino rice cakes are available to satisfy any sweet cravings.

The small space also draws vintage clothing and home decor retailers. Brooklyn Voyager sells men’s and women’s clothing. Explore Brooklyn Voyager’s selection of eccentric, yet tasteful men’s and women’s clothing. Vintage shirts sell for less than $30, and jackets range from oversized jean jackets to patterned windbreakers.

Gratitude Gardens packages mini-ecosystems with crystals for customers to plant their wishes and “watch them grow”.

There’s more options that the fair offers: stationary, henna, paintings and more. The options are numerous and well worth the visit to Hester Street. For more details, visit the Hester Street Fair’s website and Facebook page.
