The Seaport District is getting a huge cultural makeover.

Enter the Seaport Culture District. The Howard Hughes Corporation is revamping the area to bring a sense of community by bringing art, events, and food while retaining the district’s historical heritage. Directed by architect James Sanders, AIA, the Seaport Culture District will be partnering with cultural organizations to showcase New York City’s rich cultural scene.

Expect art installations, exhibitions, and an influx of amazing food. With plans to renovate the Pier 17 building with over 80 shops and restaurants, an amphitheater, and a rooftop space to enjoy the spectacular views over the water.

The Seaport Culture District will also be offering educational talks, panel discussions, and forums. For those interested in taking classes, the Seaport Culture District will have sketching and photography classes. Families will be able to take advantage of after-school programs for grades K-12, in addition to family events on the weekend.

Upcoming events include an exhibition of Sea Level: Five Boroughs at the Water’s Edge, a photo series of the East River waterfront by photographer Elizabeth Felicella, a light and sound installation called Portrait Project, and HarperCollins Booklab, an event space/reading lounge that will host readings, panels, and talks.

Not only that, but renowned chef and restauranteur Jean-Georges Vongerichten has partnered with the Howard Hughes Corporation to bring a food market and seafood restaurant atop the landmark Tin Building in 2017.
