3 Neighborhoods, 3 New Lunch Break Options

It’s a new year, and while we’re back to our old stomping grounds, we don’t have to fall back into old habits. A habit we’re practicing this year is savoring our lunch breaks. Lunch should be a welcome break, a chance to re-energize your mind and body, and most importantly be healthy and taste great!

We’ve rounded up a few of the new places opening up in three different, busy neighborhoods of NYC, so you’ll be sure to find one that’s close to your office.

They already have three successful locations in the city, SoHo, TriBeCa and in the Meatpacking District — not to mention their outpost in Greenpoint and Toronto. This location will have a dedicated catering pick-up counter to pick up fresh salads, sandwiches, their famous nutty chocolate chip cookies of course and much more, making it the perfect spot to grab lunch in the warm and cozy aesthetic they’re known for. And PSA for all the businesses, it’s great for catering group lunches, too.

Gilded Age Landmark in the Heart of TriBeCa

Tracking the movement of privacy-seeking celebrities to New York City’s top desirable and classic neighborhoods, one of the most creative and daring new luxury residential projects is 443 Greenwich, a new condominium set inside a historic Gilded Age landmark in the heart of TriBeCa. Unlike the standard fare of new glass-walled towers Uptown, this prime New York-location offers timeless architecture in a private enclave attracting A-list property buyers from the worlds of entertainment, sports, finance, and tech.

Acclaimed for its landmark architecture, extraordinary finishes, a wealth of inspiring space and ultimate privacy in the perfect TriBeCa location, 443 Greenwich is a category unto itself. The developer MetroLoft is offering extraordinary, spacious homes up to six bedrooms — merging the spirit and physical forms of the 19th and 21st centuries into a unique, singular presence.

Led by Nathan Berman, MetroLoft’s visionary team has transformed this TriBeCa landmark while retaining significant architectural elements, such as the impossible-to-replace, 16-inch square Carolina Yellow Pine beams.

Reflecting the loft building’s rugged authenticity, the acclaimed design firm CetraRuddy has remastered Charles Haight’s original architecture, fusing classic proportions and silhouettes with contemporary textures, craftsmanship, and luxury finishes.

The design includes exclusive kitchens fabricated by Christopher Peacock, hand-selected marble and schist, acid-etched glass, 8-inch-wide oak plank floors, and accents of antiqued bronze and polished stainless steel.

As reported by Interior Design magazine, the team “set out to impress buyers who appreciate architectural subtlety — and can pay for it — with a design that is equally heritage compatible and just as sophisticated.”

Not surprisingly, this TriBeCa landmark-designated property—an exciting,  private, and desirable new enclave—is called home by several of Hollywood’s leading film actors as well as internationally renowned sports figures and high-tech moguls. Exclusive and one-of-a-kind.

Now hailed as TriBeCa’s celebrity haven and “most private address,” 443 Greenwich affords drive-in/drive-out underground parking and drop-off with valet services and a second lobby with access to private elevators opening directly into residents’ homes.

At ground level, the full-service, 24-hour lobby with white-glove building staff presents a magnificent, sculptural design with views of an extraordinary 4,000-square-foot landscaped interior garden designed by the renowned HMWhite.

On the rooftop, 443 Greenwich provides residents a lush, 5,000-square-foot deck with trellises, outdoor showers, and wet bar. Other amenities include a fitness center by The Wright Fit with children’s playroom, a hammam with men’s and women’s locker rooms, and a 75-foot lap pool with travertine marble walls. There are private storage rooms and a large, temperature-controlled wine cellar.

The property is marketed exclusively by Cantor-Pecorella. Remaining residences range from $7 million to $27.5 million, with a remarkable 9,000-square-foot penthouse offered for $55 million. These full-service condominiums have two to six bedrooms, and up to 6.5 baths.

With its authentic, red-brick loft architecture and the secluded refuge within, 443 Greenwich is a veritable oasis removed from the bustle of urban life yet only steps away from New York’s best restaurants and nightlife.

“We’re creating an environment that is genuine TriBeCa yet also paparazziproof,” said MetroLoft’s Berman.

“We started with centuries of Manhattan history and offer the most compelling modern design and the highest degree of privacy within a quiet, protective layout.”

An Evening At The Roxy

There’s a new generation of hotels in Downtown. No longer just a place to sleep, these hotels are an experience in themselves with food, drink, and entertainment that may just keep you from going outside at all. One of such places is The Roxy Hotel, a luxury boutique venue in TriBeCa, which Downtown visited for dinner last week.Upon entry, you’ll be enveloped in the dark and mysterious ambiance, with notes of smooth piano music playing in the background Tuesday through Saturday. The Roxy exudes cool luxury with a wide mix of people; Wall Street bankers, international guests, well-dressed friends slurping on oysters and intimate dates relishing in a tête-à-tête.What do to when arriving? There are four bars; the Oyster Bar with a menu featuring every imaginable delicacy from the sea, the jazz bar known as Django, Paul’s Cocktail Lounge and of course, the plush, cozy Roxy Bar and restaurant.

The food service starts at 7 a.m. with a cup from the laid-back in-house coffee shop, Jack’s Stir Brew Coffee and continues into late dinner service.

Dinner will be a fancy affair, but it’s worth the expense. The waiters have been trained well, attentive yet not overbearing, friendly but with a keen sense of when to leave the table. Choose from light, mostly organic appetizers, perhaps share pigs in blankets or a dipping board of Mediterranean Mezze and savor a round of lightly seared scallops for the table. For mains, the menu has been kept delightfully uncomplicated. Sample the Roxy Classics – Garganelli pasta, Brick Chicken, 14oz NY Strip Steak or a healthy kale salad, and pair with sides of brussel sprouts, sautéed wild mushrooms or pomme purée. Is your mouth watering yet? (YES!). As is traditional in New York City, the portions are also very generous.Pair your food with the finest wines, traditional or New World, seasonal and standard Roxy cocktails or Pinkus Unfiltered Ur-Pilsner and Ithaca Flower Power IPA.As if we haven’t already enticed you to swing by the hotel after work this afternoon (see you there!), there’s one more element of this world that we need to introduce you to. Namely, the Roxy Cinema.

Currently being refurbished into a film lover’s haven, the boutique cinema will re-open to the public in late September and promises a wide selection, from documentaries, art, indie flicks and celebrity showcases to 35mm and its latest introduction, 16mm films.

Keep your eye out for our interview with the hotel’s cinema manager, Illyse Singer, too!

Neely & Chloe Burch’s Push Through The Fashion Industry

Fashion expertise comes easy in the Burch family, or so it would seem. Sisters Neely and Chloe Burch, nieces of the famous fashion designer Tory Burch, launched their own accessory company geared towards millennial, working women — and they’re already making a name for themselves as well as their almost one-year-old (this September) brand.

Neely & Chloe immediately grabbed the attention from all kinds of fashionistas due to their sleek, customizable designs on top of the affordable price points. They sell handbags, footwear, wallets, and accessories, all on their shop online.

The sisters just recently opened a Neely & Chloe showroom in TriBeCa as well as just wrapped up an eight city, national tour aboard Ampersand, their brand-customized Airstream, to celebrate their launch.

The tour allowed them to communicate and engage face-to-face and allow the local influencers and customers to come through to show support of the brand, shop the collection, and lastly, meet Neely and Chloe.

Downtown Magazine got the opportunity to chat with Neely and Chloe about their growing business and how they got to where they are today.

Neely and Chloe both started a career in the world of fashion after graduating college and decided to combine their expertise to create a chic and sophisticated, yet attainable collection. Their aesthetics and taste go hand in hand with one another almost completely; however, they have very different strengths and weaknesses in their work styles.

While Chloe is the executor of the bunch, Neely tends to spend more time on the creative side of the business, but they use each other’s strengths and weaknesses to become a stronger company. All in all, they compliment each other and make up a powerful company.

“Having a partner and somewhere to share in all the victories (and challenges) makes all of the ups and downs of starting your own business a little more manageable,” said Neely.

Overall, they strive to be a company known as a trusted source of consistent and reliable style for women. From the beginning, they knew their core consumer would be a woman in the early 20s through mid-30s. And although that is their target consumer, they have all different types of customers.

“What has been really fun is to watch all the other women, younger and older, some focused on fashion, others not so much, to find what they’re looking for in our assortment as well,” Neely stated.

Their uniqueness comes from the ways that so many different types of women can fold Neely & Chloe into their lifestyle because the products are pure concepts where each woman can come and put their individual touch and concept.

They chose to focus on handbags and shoes because “we felt like they were the finishing touches for a woman’s outfit – they’re what take your jeans and a tee from casual day wear to a night out or that LBD from the office to dinner on the town,” Neely said.

Neely’s favorite product is “The Weekender while Chloe can’t get enough of her Travel Wallet lately.

With Neely & Chloe being based in New York, we at Downtown love to talk to locals about their favorite places to go to in Lower Manhattan. Chloe keeps up with her fit lifestyle on the Westside Highway and Neely is a sucker for places where she can drink wine and eat sushi. They recommend Momoya, Sushi Katsuei, Smith and Mills, and Weather Up.

The future of Neely & Chloe is looking promising, but for now, they’re focused on “executing our core offering really well – learning what our customers love, and what they’re looking for that we haven’t created yet. We’ll have to see where that takes us,” Neely said.

Their goal is to grow into a brand that is trusted by their customers and one that stands for quality and integrity with timeless design.

When asked for advice for young adults striving for a career in the fashion industry, they both agreed.

“Talk to everyone you can to garner any and all feedback and use it to refine concepts and ideas. With technology and communication the way it is today, it is challenging to break through all of the other noise that’s out there, so you must be creative with how you catch people’s attention and resonate with so much coming at consumers each day,” the sisters said.

Cookies, Cakes and Everything Baked

With so many options to indulge on something sweet in Downtown New York, it can be hard to know where to go. Not to mention what piece of cake is actually worth the calories – there’s nothing worse than ordering a cupcake that turns out to be nothing special. Baked in Tribeca is one of those places we keep coming back to, which means we know exactly what to order. We’ve done the eating for you, so your life doesn’t have to consist of any disappointing desserts.

Before we dive into the selection of cakes, cookies and pastries, let’s talk about the space first. Whereas many bakeries in the city are small and more suitable for grab-and-go, Baked has a large seating area that invites you to stay as long as you want. The free WiFi means people are often typing away on their laptop, while enjoying a slice of cake — guilty as charged.

The selection of cakes and cupcakes at Baked rotate daily in house, giving you a little variety and surprise upon arriving. The cakes are definitely worth choosing over the cupcakes, because of the most perfect layers you have ever seen, ensuring every bite has frosting and cake. No dry bites here!

Our favorite is the rich and chocolate-y Diner Double Dark cake, frosted and filled with a semi-sweet chocolate frosting and topped with crunchy chocolate malt balls. Other highlights are the light and fluffy lemon drop (lemon cake filled with lemon curd and a vanilla lemon buttercream) and the Funfetti cake topped with thousands of sprinkles – it will put a smile on your face before you even bite into it.

Baked is more than just cake though, with its rich brownies and blondies, an amazing gooey gluten-free chocolate cloud cookie and innovative Brooksters (a dark brownie base filled with chocolate chunk cookie batter). All of these are definitely worth your bite!
