Gemfields & Gübelin partner effectively in the luxury world

As per a great post from Jen King of Luxury Daily, colored-gemstone miner Gemfields is “providing peace of mind for its brand partners and consumers through a gemological paternity test program.” Gemfields’ “Emerald Paternity Test” leverages technologies developed by Swiss family-owned firm Gübelin. Gübelin is known for its expertise with regards to gemstones.

“Responsibility and transparency is at the heart of our business,” said Gabriella Harvey, director of procurement and product services at Gemfields. “We will therefore always welcome developments that improve the industry in this regard…We also embrace new technology and seek to modernize the sector wherever we can,” she said. “This new technology is a perfect embodiment of this.”

Kering Group leads the way with its new parental leave policy

As learned from another great story by Jen King on the Luxury Daily website, French luxury conglomerate Kering Group has introduced a parental leave policy for all of its employees.

Beginning Jan. 1 of the New Year, Kering’s new parental leave policy will go into effect. The company has more than 38,500 employees in about 60 countries, who will be entitled to 14 weeks of full pay for maternity and adoption leave or five days of full pay for paternity and partner leave. In countries with more favorable parental leave benefits, the country’s local legislation will be applied in place of Kering’s policies.

Said Beatrice Lazat, Kering’s Senior Vice President of Human Resources: “This ambitious policy will enable employees of the group and its companies in almost 60 countries to benefit from a standard framework that promotes a healthy work-life balance.”

The length of maternity leave — and whether the period away from work is paid, fully or at a lower salary — has become an important issue for many women and their partners. With no workplace standard established in many countries, companies with policies that support employees’ desires to have children are likely to be better-received than those without leave programs.

More information on the Kering Group — which owns Saint Laurent Paris, Gucci and Bottega Veneta — and its new policy can be read via Luxury Daily.

As discussed in a recent article by Jen King for Luxury Daily, Prada is creating more than just high-end fashion. The Italian brand is asking viewers to decode what is experience, what is memory and what is dream in its new David O. Russell-directed short film. Starring Allison Williams, Kuoth Wiel and Frida Pinto, Past Forward was first premiered via Instagram’s Stories app feature, targeted towards users in New York, London and Tokyo.

In analyzing why a brand like Prada would aim a new campaign at social media users, Vertic founder/CEO Sebastian Jespersen explained: “Social media, and specifically Instagram have a larger share of a user’s life…If you compare how much time you spent on Instagram for example compared to how much time you spent at a gallery, or at a movie theater, you would realize that a big chunk of your information needs is satisfied through social media.”
