1. Blue Note Jazz Fest
Check website for complete list of venues
Wed, Jun 1st-Thurs, Jun 30th

The Blue Note Jazz Festival is a month-long jazz celebration with over 100 events and performances from heavy hitters like Kamasi Washington (a must-see at this year’s SummerStage and FREE!), Robert Glasper, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Joshua Redman Quartet, Christian McBride, Talib Kweli, McCoy Tyner, Ron Carter, Roy Haynes, and many more.

2. World Science Festival
Check website for complete list of venues
Wed, Jun 1st-Sun, Jun 5th (check website for times)

Have your mind blown at the World Science Festival! No need for a science degree to enjoy the wide range of topics and events, among them talks on the science of baking and robot morality, fishing trips, street science and stargazing. This year, The Month joins the ranks for a night of science stories. Top on our list of events to attend is “Awakening the Mind,” a special tribute to Dr. Oliver Sacks.
3. Participatory Art
Governors Island
Fri, Jun 3rd-Sun, Jun 5th from 10am-6pm

The Figment Project is the sort of installation art exhibit that invites attendees to interact — touch, play and dream — with the art on display. Volunteer-based with no corporate backing, Figment is the embodiment of art for the people. Expect theater, dance, music, and lots of opportunities to make your own art!

4. Lobster and Beer Sail
Slip 2 at Battery Park (Battery Park)
Tues, Jun 7th-Aug 16th from 7-9pm

We are so excited about the new Lobster & Beer Lovers Sail that we are including it in our look ahead section. We can’t wait to sink our teeth into two delicious Luke’s Lobster Rolls as we enjoy the New York sunset, the sound of the Hudson on the wooden hull, and, more importantly, unlimited beer! $95

5. Hot Wings Festival
Ainsworth Park (Gramercy)
Sun, June 5th from 11am-7pm

Taste over 50 wing varieties, from classic flavors to unique concoctions, at the 2nd annual Best Wings Festival.  This finger-licking, family-friendly event is jammed packed with activities, entertainment, competitions and giveaways. Plus, there will be plenty of craft beer to help you wash down all those wings. Tickets start at $10.

6. Mr. Purple Rooftop Bar
Mr. Purple (Lower East Side)
Sun  11am-2am; Mon-Tues 4pm-2am; Wed 4pm-3am; Thurs-Fri 4pm-4am;  Sat 11am-4am

We waited for warmer weather to check out Mr. Purple, a new-ish rooftop bar at the Indigo Hotel. Perched on the 15th floor, Mr. Purple is trying hard to impress, but we think the food and drink menu, plus the sweeping views of the city, speak for themselves. Stop by for a midweek drink if you want to avoid the weekend crowds.
