As February nears a closing, the spring season begins to approach and although it may not be completely warm yet, NYC has many great events in March to kick off spring. From parades to blooming florals, there will be plenty of ways to celebrate March in the city.

1. See Your Favorite Off-Broadway Shows for a Discount

2. Check Out The New Colossus Festival

Taking place from March 3rd-8th, The New Colossus Festival will be coming to the Lower East Side for its 7th edition. This is a multi-venue event, featuring a wide variety of emerging indie artists from all around the world. They also offer a variety of festival badges, including access to showcases, parties, happy hours, and panel series. Badges can be purchased on their website.

3. Holi at The Seaport Museum

The vibrant holiday of Holi is celebrated March 7th, in an action-packed day at the Seaport Museum, with free General Admission from 11am–5pm. Festive activities will be taking place across the Museum campus and Seaport Square. Enjoy energetic dance and drum performances, explore the flavors of Holi, browse an outdoor Indian market featuring nearly a dozen Indian-owned businesses, and—of course—take part in the iconic throwing of colorful pigments, the heart of Holi. Tickets are free but preregistration is encouraged. Walkups will be accommodated as possible.

4. Visit Governor’s Island and See Their Ice Sculpture Show

Hop on the short ferry ride over to Governor’s Island and see Governors Island Arts’ fifth annual Ice Sculpture Show on March 8th. This event is different than your standard ice sculpture show, featuring ten artists who will be paired with a professional ice carver from Okamoto Studio, so guests can witness real-time ice carving. This is a free event open to the public, and will also feature ice carving workshops, a DJ set from Miss Alicia, and an event with emcee Plant Kween. 5. Attend the St. Patrick’s Day Parade

On Tuesday, March 17th, celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, running along Fifth Avenue, from 44th Street to 79th Street. A tradition that dates back to March 17th, 1762 with over 150,000 marchers and millions of spectators, this parade is a must when celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. It runs from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and it is recommended to view anywhere along Fifth Avenue, although standing room is first-come first-served.

6. See New York Botanical Garden’s Orchid Show

Visit New York Botanical Garden’s The Orchid Show: Mr. Flower Fantastic’s Concrete JungleThe display reimagines the Big Apple through dazzling florals, bringing in the city’s most beloved aspects. The artist, Mr. Flower Fantastic, is one of the most in-demand floral artists in the world. Beyond the display shown in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, the botanical garden is offering special programs as well, including Orchid Nights, where the show turns into a nightlife scene with DJ sets, snacks and drinks, and a dance floor, as well as Q&A opportunities and chances to speak with orchid experts to begin your own garden at home.
