SIXTY SoHo is where it all began. The flagship hotel for the SIXTY Collective was always referred to as “Sixty” so it was a no-brainer naming the new hotel group after the iconic hotel. As a part of the rebrand, the SoHo hotel was opened with a new name. Guests now have a beautiful, complete view of New York City, from Uptown’s Chrysler Building to Downtown’s One World Trade Center from their balconies.
“So much more to unfold” exclaimed Alex Withers, Director of Corporate Strategy and Sales, at the media event for the SoHo flagship. Formerly a part of the Thompson Hotel Group, 60 Thompson Street underwent rebranding to be rebirthed as SIXTY SoHo. Jason Pomeranc, co-founder of Thompson Hotel, took four hotels that were a part of a legacy and created the SIXTY Collective. SIXTY is a “personal company” Withers added. It’s owned by three brothers: Jason, Lawrence “Larry” and Michael Pomeranc, and longtime partner, Stephen Brandman. By “keeping it in the family,” one can see and appreciate the emphasis on service in the hotel.
The rooms have been designed with the resident in mind. From decor to amenities, SIXTY has taken into account and addressed the potential needs of someone visiting Downtown Manhattan. Tara Bernerd, the designer for SIXTY SoHo, is very humble shrugging off compliments. Stories about her ever-changing highlights reveal Bernerd would easily fit into the SoHo scene. It’s easy to see how her genius style created a haven for patrons away from home in Downtown New York City.
The hotel rooms are very versatile. They can adapt to accommodate the diverse needs of those who may rent the room. This flexibility gives the rooms a homey feel. Walking into a room, one might forget it was a hotel room and that they weren’t actually right at home. The décor and design of the new rooms does not feel cookie cutter or conformist. The experience at SIXTY SoHo picks up the “bohemian-chic vibe of the area,” one that cannot be replicated anywhere else in the world. In addition, a new restaurant and lobby bar will be debuting very soon.
Are you frequently traveling in the United States? The SIXTY Collective has hotels in the Lower East Side, Columbus Square, Beverly Hills, and Nautilus in Miami.
