Hudson River Park will be hosting The Hudson Park Games, a three-tiered event featuring a group competition, an individual competition, and an outdoor festival.
The center piece of the Hudson River Park Games is a pentathlon comprised of dodgeball, kayak, obstacle course, flag football, and beach volleyball competitions. The competition is open to teams of ten. It is requested that each team member fundraise for the park in addition to providing a registration fee for their teams.
During the event, there will also be individual activities. Individual activities include fun runs, yoga, kids’ soccer clinics, pogo sticking, and kickboxing.
Additionally, The Games will feature The Games’ Village for spectators. The Village will feature festival programming, including live music, sports expo, a beer garden, food, beverages, kid’s activities, and lawn games. The expo will include New York-based running, cycling, fitness and sports retailers, Chelsea Piers, CLIF Bar, DAVIDsTEA, NOOK, and New York Kayak Co. There will be kids’ offerings from Free Arts NYC, Manhattan Youth, and Gymboree.
All proceeds benefit Friends of Hudson River Park’s park improvement projects. Funds raised by Friends of Hudson River Park support park operations, maintenance, and security as well as educational, cultural programming and horticultural initiatives.
“Our favorite time of year is kicking off the summer season with entertainment, events and education programs which will draw a diverse audience from adjacent communities and across the entire city, for all to enjoy,” said Madelyn Wils, CEO and President of Hudson River Park.
The event will take place Saturday June 13 rain or shine. The event will take place on Hudson River Park’s Piers 25, 26, and 40.
Registration for the event is still open. More information on The Games and registration can be found at http://www.hudsonriverpark.org/events/thegames
