On Sept. 25, Gefilte Gumbo will take the audience on a culinary journey that begins in the American South where Jews have embraced, influenced, and adapted the foods of the non-Jewish community, both white and African-American. Hear about the evolution of delicious fusion dishes like collards with griebenes, sweet potato rugelach, and gumbo with creole matzah balls in this discussion of the intersection of race, community, and identity. Light tasting to follow.

Panelists will include authors Michael Twitty and Ted Merwin, Professor Hasia Diner, Jewish food historian Katherine Romanow, Chicago Reader Deputy Editor Robin Amer, and author/moderator Jayne Cohen. The program was funded through the generous support of the Feingold Family, in memory of longtime Gallery Educator Marilyn Feingold.

Gefilte Gumbo will start at 2:00 P.M. Tickets are $20 for the general public, $15 for MJH Members. For tickets and other information, please visit www.mjhnyc.org/calendar.
