Located at 207A Front Street daily, Fulton Stall Market supplies the South Street Seaport with farm fresh wares from suppliers surrounding the area. Beginning as a maker’s market for local craftsmen in 2008, it has since been transformed into space that brings urbanites, farmers and their fresh fare together.

When Fulton Stall Market opened in 2008, the local community was craving fine, fresh, local food.

“Fulton Stall Market really is about connecting with farmers and connecting the farmers with our community,” explains South Street Seaport General Manager Phillip St. Pierre.

“The Lower Manhattan population is hovering around 65,000 residents with almost 330,000 workers coming to spend their daytime hours. With only single digit numbers of locations to find food directly from regional farmers in the vicinity, the Seaport set out to operate a sustainable location for farmers to sell their goods. Since 2008 the neighborhood has changed – now with Pier 17 and the renovated Fulton Market Building preparing to re-open, the need remains for many who call Seaport District home. Now in its 8th year, Fulton Stall Market will open again this Sunday April 10th and will feature an outdoor bazaar with farmers selling their wares directly to Lower Manhattanites.

“The outdoor market is a little more like your traditional farmer’s market. Tents are set up, farmers come and you can grab something fresh right off the truck,” states St. Pierre.

The opening will also have arts and crafts for children, bluegrass music and an onsite “EscapeMaker.” This service plans excursions for New Yorkers so that they can enjoy little R&R away from the city without having to plan the logistics. They can travel uptown to some of New York’s farming destinations.

The market’s cumulative programing helps to highlight healthy, fresh produce and the farmers that supply them, while serving as a fun activity for downtown locals. It is also one of many food-friendly enterprises that will be a fixture at the seaport.

St. Pierre says “When you look at some of the [South Street Seaport’s] new tenants like Jean-Georges and Momofuku, you’re talking about restaurants and chefs that have definitely put a stake in the ground to say that farm fresh food matters and curating your food matters.”
