Inside of Annick Goutal on Bleecker Street
French fragrance brand, Annick Goutal, has made it across the pond to open its first stand-alone store in the United States in New York City’s West Village. The boutique has opened up its shop on 397 Bleecker St., attracting perfume lovers all around the block since it opened in mid-April.
Naming the brand after her own name, Annick Goutal opened her first boutique in 1981 in downtown Paris, France. Goutal started off by selling three perfumes, Folavril, Passion and Eau d’Hadrien. One of the standouts was Eau d’Hadrien, which was meant to evoke memories of Emperor Hadrien. It brought in many people to her store as the word spread throughout France. Eventually, a celebrity following began and Annick Goutal quickly became a celebrity favorite.
As Goutal’s popularity grew, so did her boutiques. After opening in a few more locations across France, Annick Goutal stores expanded to 43 countries around the continent and began selling worldwide. By the time Goutal had passed away at the age of 53, due to breast cancer, the line had extended from three to twenty five scents.
Eau d’Hadrien is far from a being a fluke as Annick Goutal have released several other popular scents including The Oriental Series (which includes Amber Fétiche and Musc Nomade), Rose Splendide and Duel. Some perfumes can be bought in Annick Goutal’s luxury butterfly bottles such as Grand Amour and Petite Chérie. These butterfly bottles are considered as the “ultimate gift” to get for women because of its romantic and feminine look, which are two kissing butterflies that sit on top of the bottle. The new boutique sells fragrances for both men and women. Annick Goutal fragrances can also be found stateside at Barney’s and Bergdorf Goodman.
