Earlier this month, students, faculty, and parents came together at Léman Manhattan Preparatory School for World Food Day and packaged over 100,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger.
More than 800 kindergarten through 12th-grade students from aforementioned Léman Manhattan Preparatory School, as well as Eisenhower Intermediate School and Rutgers Preparatory School, were present.
The meals are meant for use in hurricane disaster relief over the coming weeks and months, adding to 9,000 meals already provided to St. Croix.
Now more important than ever following disasters like hurricanes Harvey, Irma and now Maria, where the lack of basic survival necessities, like food and water, serve as a barrier to health and the recovery process.
The various shift jobs included pouring soy flour, dehydrated vegetables, rice, and vitamins into bags; weighing the bags; sealing the bags; packing the sealed meal bags into boxes.
