Pita, hummus and Shakshuka have gone mainstream, and Shoo Shoo is leaning in to the trend by transforming the corner of Broome and Mott Streets into little piece of Israel. The restaurant offers contemporary takes on Mediterranean classics with a focus on Israeli staples in a setting that mimics the energy of Tel Aviv. Shoo Shoo’s founders all grew up in Israel, two now call New York city home, and boast impressive experience in the restaurant and design industries.
Their dinner menu is full of dishes meant to be shared like warm, chickpea-topped hummus with excellent fluffy pita. Their gluten-free falafel latkes come with a pomegranate seed studded salad, and the aryes are what every burger dreams it could be.
Cocktails utilize Arak, the middle eastern, licorice flavored spirit, and the beer menu features Goldstar Israeli lager. The wine menu travels the world but includes several varieties from Israeli producers. Brunch guests can also enjoy fresh juices in a rainbow of colors.
The newly launched brunch includes Shoo Shoo’s take on the now famous Shakshuka, aptly dubbed ShookShookka, featuring tahini, zaatar, and olives. Other highlights are the knafecake, based on the pastry knafe, which pairs pancakes with melted sweet cheese curds, walnuts, and rose syrup.
The menu includes several salads, typical of a Mediterranean breakfast, avocado toast, and a breakfast board of eggs, smoked salmon, and chopped salad. There is something for everyone at every meal, and dishes can easily be made vegan and gluten or dairy free.
