The Seaport District in Downtown NYC brings to you an innovative fashion concept for emerging designers and makers. Wait for it — Seaport Studios arrives this summer during the week of June 15th in 2015 at 19 Fulton Street, so get ready aspiring designers and fashion junkies.
The WWD is one of the organizations partnering with the Seaport District to be a part of the unique vision to transform the vastly growing Lower Manhattan area. Transforming this historic and vintage part of New York to a modern, yet timeless fashion destination brings new and exciting diversity to the Downtown area.
Seaport Studios is just the beginning of something first-hand in New York’s oldest “new” location. Reclaiming their title as the fundamental fashion district of New York, the Howard Hughes Corporation will also be recreating Lower Manhattan for the next three years. With the Howard Hughes Foundation taking Downtown New York by the reins, they will create an internationally recognized New York district for more unique entertainment, food, and fashion.
The process for upcoming designers is simple. Lincoln Palsgrove, Director of Marketing at the Howard Hughes Corporation stated, “Every artist and designer has been meticulously selected by an advisory board of industry influencers and retail professionals to bring a unique design aesthetic to Lower Manhattan.” Editors from WWD and retail professionals are available to bring a premier experience to the area as well.
Seaport Studios will feature a rotating showcase that will feature up-and-coming styles and design envisioned as an eclectic mix of fashion, art, food and beverage in a curated environment. The designers that were selected for the opening coming this June will display their collections during different phases of the pop-up that will run through December. Designs will be included by the Brooklyn-based Guild Group and the store’s interior is inspired by the Seaport’s nautical and trading history. This new and improved concept store will give local designers/makers the chance to showcase their passion and will provide an experience that unites retail, NYC, and curated activities all in one location.
The concept for the Seaport Studios has been in the works for quite some time. The HHC has linked up with South Street Seaport for three more years, and has shown the ultimate dedication to enlivening the Downtown area.
“Seaport Studios at 19 Fulton Street is one of many projects The Howard Hughes Corporation has been working on, and this specific project supports the vision of what’s to come at the Seaport in terms of diversity, unique designs, and talent,” Palsgrove said.
Seaport Studios will bring the best of New York’s emerging creative talent to Lower Manhattan with this new innovative contribution to the community. The idea behind the vision is simple. When picturing Seaport Studios, all you need to do is gather a group of independent brands that represent the highest standards of contemporary style, add today’s trending designers and collaborate unique programs that enliven the space. Then, take the unique characters that Downtown has to offer and blend this to create a retail destination unlike anything else offered in the city.
The core and the essence of every city is downtown, which runs full circle back to our Downtown company saying, “The heart of every city.” This new edition to the Lower Manhattan area will be a great contribution to the culture here and will offer spectacular opportunities to anyone who is interested in the art and lifestyle of fashion. It is known that the Lower Manhattan area is vastly growing as we speak and has been for several years now, and Palsgrove was able to take the time to express how he feels about the Downtown area in NYC as well.
“Lower Manhattan is quickly becoming a top retail destination. Seaport Studios is one example of how HHC plans to address the changes happening in Lower Manhattan by offering goods and services that are relevant to our new and diverse residential population in the Financial District and surrounding community,” he said.
In addition, even though the Seaport Studios is expected to be the very first location in Lower Manhattan, Palsgrove and the rest of the HHC Foundation have much bigger plans for Seaport Studios in the future. Seaport Studios and the idea behind this fashion opportunity goes beyond just Lower Manhattan, aiming to become a retail destination for all of New York City.
As many of you reading this article, you’re either impressed and/or exciting for what lies ahead for the Lower Manhattan area, but that’s not all you have to look forward to. The HHC Foundation is constantly brainstorming and introducing new and thriving projects to labor.
“The next three years will be pivotal for the neighborhood as we open the Fulton Market Building in 2016, with iPic Theaters and then in 2017 the grand opening of Pier 17 which we are sure will be an iconic addition to the New York skyline,” Palsgrove said.
Seaport Studios is just a peek of what’s to come.
