In conjunction with NYC Design WeekThe Howard Hughes Corporation is once again celebrating the many dynamic cultural enterprises that are growing and developing in Lower Manhattan through its second installation of the Seaport Culture District. Launched in 2015, the arts and culture initiative serves to highlight the many creative ventures that are taking shape at the South Street Seaport.

“The Howard Hughes Corporation is in the process of transforming the Seaport District, New York’s oldest new neighborhood, into one of the city’s premiere destinations for cultural, culinary, fashion and entertainment experiences,” explains South Street Seaport General Manager Phillip St. Pierre. “The reinvigorated Seaport District will include the ultimate cinematic experience with iPic Theaters, chefs and restaurateurs such as Jean-Georges (ABC Kitchen) and David Chang (Momofuku), McNally Jackson Books, Scotch and Soda and more.”

In addition to its many prospective cultural destinations, the Seaport District has already implemented several attractions that celebrate a diverse range of urban businesses including the rotating Seaport Studios and a seaport Smorgasburg location.

The 12-day Seaport Culture District will be hosting events and programming in/around the Seaport District. Its 2016 edition will also include a first-time partnership with the Parsons School of Design. The series of events will be located at the entrance to the Seaport District at 117 Beekman Street as well as Seaport Studios at 19 Fulton Street. It will include a Downtown Dialogues speaker series as well as a Parsons School of Design installation.

There will also be a street party that is open and free to the public, a design market at Seaport Studios offering diverse artistic mediums for sale and fun family workshops presented by the Children’s Museum of the Arts.

The cumulative experience will be an inspiring observance of the city’s many creative minds as well as a peak into the many upcoming enterprises that will soon be opening at the seaport.

“We are excited to be part of this renaissance that is happening right now in Lower Manhattan. The Design Festival is just one example of a larger resurgence occurring in our part of the city. It is a very exciting time.” states St. Pierre.
