Patterned sweaters and printed pants were the stars of designer Thaddeus O’Niel’s Autumn/Winter 2015 collection, “Children of the Wave”, which debuted at New York’s MADE Fashion Week on Sunday night. Chelsea’s MILK Studios played host to the men’s luxury play wear label, which officially launched in Spring 2014.
Sunday night’s tribal-inspired presentation was styled by David Vandewal, featuring jewelry by Britt Bolton and gift bags from Rescue Skin Care. Traditional Japanese Butoh dancers recreated the motion of a wave as the backdrop of the show, which centered on the exploration of how clothes can enhance the body’s movement.
The collection evidently aims to strike a balance between luxury, practicality, and comfort, which O’Neil claims is inspired by “the hobos of the sea.” The collection utilises a variety of high quality fabrics such as silk, linen, cashmere, cotton, and wool to create a unique and practical range of ready to wear pieces. The unique designs, bold patterns, bright colors, and rich fabrics make Mr. O’Neil’s collection stand out from the crowd.
Mr. O’Neil’s international travel adventures and interaction with locals and their style inspired the collection, which invites one to live comfortably and casually in sophisticated boho chic inspired garments. Much of his inspiration for the line can be attributed to the 8 years Mr. O’Neil spent living in Australia and absorbing the fashion, lifestyle and culture of the country.
