When I first started my practice about over 13 years ago — OMG!!! — I began in a small office by myself. I worked and hustled to build a client base and when I was a year in, hired my first dietitian to work with me. I had an opportunity to do a national TV segment, and immediately fell in love with TV. That’s when I realized I really could reach more than just the people coming into my office.

From there, I wrote my first book, started a nutrition snack bar company, began working for Women’s Health Magazine as a contributor and so on… Fast forward 10+ years later, and I built a team of five RD’s, I am on book number five and have started The Nutrition School. There of course have been a whole LOT of ups and downs in between, but I’m still doing TV, still writing, still collaborating with other health and wellness professionals, and every day it’s my goal to reach as many people as possible and help them take their nutrition up as many notches as possible to live their most Nutritious Lives. And now I’m also able to teach others who are just starting out everything I wish I knew when I was just starting out in my free series, How to Build a Wellness Brand.

I will be honest, and anyone that is also a working mother I’m sure will be quick to agree with me — it’s NOT easy. I am truly my happiest when I am checked out from all else and enjoying a simple activity outside with my kids. We recently went to Colorado for vacation and while we were biking one day, I thought, “This is really life. This is everything.” So while for me family comes first, my biz is my other baby. I also schedule in family time each week before anything else. If it is going to be a crazy busy week, I always make sure to schedule in some downtime activity with the kids. Also, we are pretty religious about our morning breakfast time — everyday at 7:40 we sit as a family. It sets the tone for the day and is truly my most sacred time.

My mission when I created The Nutrition School was to share my philosophy and methodology online for other super-motivated wellness professionals who are looking for some career guidance and direction. If I can help others avoid the mistakes I made over the years, teach them my successes to expedite their own successes, and give them a roadmap to help them and their own clients reach their own goals, then I have truly accomplished my original Nutritious Life mission. Which is, and always has been, to help as many people as possible take their nutrition up as many notches as possible.

We designed this program for RDs and nutritionists, fitness professionals, health coaches, and others looking for next-level nutrition education. From meal-planning to the latest nutritional breakthroughs, counseling clients, and launching your business, we’ve designed the program around the biggest problems we’ve seen in the nutrition industry.

The Nutrition School goes beyond just a textbook to answer specific real-life questions, to allow my students to offer their clients — and to teach them how to get them in the first place! To grow their own business and brand to help them reach more people. The classes are small and intimate so that I get the chance to work more 1 to 1 with my students, and we only open three classes a year so we can give the best experience to everyone who enrolls. The best part? It’s an all online learning environment so you can become Nutritious Life Certified in your jammies, if you want to. You also get to guest blog on our site as an alum, and we give you tons of exclusive opportunities to work with other brands, too.

Even better, the Nutrition School is approved and accredited school by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP). This means that once you become Nutritious Life Certified, you’ll have the ability to become Board-Certified in Holistic Nutrition.

Even with the education, I still think one of the most valuable parts of TNS is the community. We have a private Facebook group that students get lifetime access to. They’re all able to interact with each other — an elite group of registered dietitians, fitness instructors, business owners, chefs, and marketing gurus, and NL Certified alums, all of whom are motivated to make an impact in the health and wellness industry! It’s seriously priceless and motivates me everyday.

When I’m not working with my Nutritious Life Team, or spending a little R+R time with my kids, I love going out and trying new healthy restaurants and workouts around the city. My favorites? The Fat Radish, Dirt Candy, Cafe Clover, and The Marshal. But I’m always up for trying something new!
