Lower Manhattan has become a family-friendly destination within New York City, with thousands of families calling the neighborhoods of downtown home. For those that do not live locally, Lower Manhattan is becoming a hub for families and children of all ages, offering an exciting range of activities year round. As spring and summer approach, the community will welcome a variety of new and returning summer camp programs, and there is truly something for everyone this season!
Butter Beans Food & Garden Summer Camp is perfect for all of those little foodies out there, teaching “city slickin’ kids ages 6-10” a range of valuable cooking skills. The camp explores the full spectrum of the food cycle through activities such as planting seeds, harvesting fresh food, cooking summer lunches, and writing cookbooks. Located at the Corlears School at 324 West 15th Street, the Manhattan branch of the camp will run in two week sessions beginning July 6th and running through July 31st. Register at their website!
Launch Math & Science Summer Camps offer fun and educational experiences for nine weeks over the summer break, providing campers with fantastic preparation for the school year ahead. The downtown location at TriBeCa Community School on Hudson Street offers a range of full and half day classes on a variety of topics, from robotics to rocket science. Camp registration is available online and filling fast, so make sure you secure a place before it’s too late.
In addition to these two fantastic New York summer camps, downtown has attracted many more, including Language Beans Summer Camp, Pine Street School, Leman, Downtown Community Center, Asphalt Green, NY Kids Club, Kidville, Gymboree, Chelsea Piers, South Street Seaport MiniMates, and Bright Horizons. To keep up to date with everything family friendly downtown, make sure you stay in touch with FiDi Families, operated by our very own Family & Lifestyle Editor Denise Courter.
