Some of the luxury you’ll experience at the  New York Health and Racquet Club locations throughout the city.

Fourteen months after Superstorm Sandy, The New York Health and Racquet Club at Whitehall Street is back and better than ever.

The fully refurbished facility is now a state-of-the-art destination with millions of dollars in improvements and facilities unsurpassed virtually anywhere in the city or beyond.

Members of the Downtown team were given a tour of the three-level location at 39 Whitehall Street which features an enormous 10,000-square-foot cardio floor with a boxing ring, two pro racquetball courts, two group fitness studios and the most impressive indoor pool this side of Dubai.

The 60-foot basement pool is complemented by two separate whirlpools, marble benches and a eucalyptus room.

The beautiful facilities are all the more exception when it is considered that the entire basement was completely flooded during the storm with flood waters rising above the ground-floor level. Forced to close for 11 days after Sandy, the club was able to get the doors back open on generator power and served as a home away from home for its thousands of Whitehall members and Downtown residents during that stormy period, providing portable showers, electricity, shelter and a sense of community for members and non-members alike.

Inspired by the connection it gained with the community in the wake of the storm, the club has placed a new emphasis on neighborhood outreach and will host a “Day at the Beach,” on Wednesday Feb. 12th for both members and non-members.  The beach party will also extend to 13th street location, which also has a newly renovated pool, whirlpool and locker rooms.
