On Wednesday, July 1, the New Museum held their White Party for museum members. The theme of the night was nautical, with the tables being decorated with anchors and Swedish Fish candies. The cocktails for the night also brought the feeling of a luxury yacht party on land, with tropical flavors such as agave nectar and grapefruit juice mixed with Milagro silver. The drinks also had nautical names such as Man Overboard and Proceed to Sea.
The party mostly took place on the first and seventh floors, each with their own bar service. The top floor also featured a DJ and a dance floor space. However, most guests were enamored with the balcony view. The crowd, entirely clad in white and perfectly defining the word “luxury,” was mostly gathered in the outdoor area, enjoying the city skyline and night air.
The main idea of the event was to encourage the purchase of a museum membership. The galleries at the New Museum were also open to guests, with the featured artists including Leonor Antunes, Sarah Charlesworth, and Albert Oehlen. Each artist has an entire floor of the museum dedicated to their exhibit, with Albert Oehlen having two floors. All of the exhibits will be at the museum until September, so guests have plenty of time to see them before the galleries change.
