Since it’s inception way back in 1970, Earth Day has become an international event intended to promote the ongoing education of key environmental issues and to encourage action and change. Each year, multiple events around New York City are staged to help promote the Earth Day mission.

So be mindful of the environment today…and enjoy yourself while you do it. Here are our top three picks for New Yorkers to enjoy the ultimate GREEN Day in Manhattan:

1. Battery Park This is one of the most green and complete recreational facilities in Lower Manhattan. The promenades, parks and sports facilities are among the best in the city. Neighboring Battery Park City is a pioneer in green living with some of the most ecologically-friendly buildings and construction in the entire country. Today’s the day to get out and enjoy this emerald jewel in Lower Manhattan.

2. Union Square This year this beautiful park that sits between 14th and 17th Streets and is bordered on the east by Lexington Avenue and Fifth Avenue on the west, will host an Earth Day event from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The schedule includes environmental exhibits, a green vehicle runway show, and will close with a  concert from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The park will also host its regular outdoor Union Square Greenmarket, which is open four days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday).
