DTM: How long have you been the GM at Le District?
SM: I’ve been in charge of Le District as the Director of Operations since March 2016.
DTM: What’s your background?
I hold a Bachelor’s in Management & Accounting from Paris. I gladly served 8 years in the French Military Police prior to moving to New York in 2011. I was the director of four champagne bars in Paris, London, and NYC, GM of the former Opia Restaurant located in the Renaissance Hotel on Lex and 57th Street, and then I opened and managed four sushi restaurants in Manhattan on the behalf of a chain called SushiShop, participating in the selling process after two years.
DTM: Since you have been with Le District how, and what have you changed?
SM: Since my arrival at Le District a lot of changes have occurred, within the internal organization of the company to the opening of new stations. I also adjusted the food offering for our guests. In terms of real estate, we used to have a store called La Cure Gourmande in our Café District (Coffee, Pastry, Crepe, etc.). I closed it and opened a Macarons, Ice Cream & Chocolate area, in 2017. We also opened a Bar a Frites (French Fries Station) & Juice Bar. Regarding our food offers, we’ve improved our selections by sourcing top products directly from France, Europe including some states here in America. Le District is the purveyor of good taste, and we are committed to providing the best food from around the world for our patrons, even though our concept is mostly focused on French Products.
DTM: Tell our readers one thing that you love about working and running Le District?
SM: Le District is a hidden gem in New York City. We offer food and drinks in our indoor market but also in our four restaurants (including the 1 Michelin Star Restaurant, L’Appart, since 2016).
Our restaurant’s terrace offers one of the best views in New York City. We are right one the water facing the marina, and during summertime, you feel like you are in Saint Tropez with luxury yachts, a delightful breeze from the Hudson River and the most beautiful pink colored sunsets. Inside Le District, each area has a different identity, the entrance will welcome our guests with the smell of our coffee & french crepes, then we have our indoor market with our Wine Bar and Grill, surrounded by our pâtisserie (bakery) (we make everything from scratch – Bread, Croissant, Pain au Chocolate, etc.), cheese & charcuterie, our fish & meat counters, etc. Sharing our products and passion with our guests is the most important thing for our team and myself.
DTM: Why should our readers come to Le District this NYE?
SM: New Year Eve in New York City is always a special moment for any New Yorker and or tourists. We wanted to bring the game up to another level, by turning our stunning 30000 square feet indoor Market, which opens into a giant cocktail are with a dancefloor. An iconic DJ will be spinning during our open bar event from 9 to 1 am. A lot of surprises will be offered to our patrons through the night!
2020 is going to be a great year and we want to start it off on the right foot! Specifically, for downtown residents, with our strong culinary and high-value offering for this special New Years’ Eve. This is a remarkable local option, for everyone.
DTM: Why a 1920’s theme?
SM: Because we are going to be ringing in the year 2020, we thought only appropriate to pay homage to the famous “Roaring Twenties”, a period of prosperity, and carefree celebration, which I think we can all enjoy for an evening. While we are not calling for people to come in Gatsby, costumes, we are going to have fun with the 100 anniversary of the start of the “Golden Age Twenties” and incorporate some fun elements of the period where appropriate.
DTM: Anything you would like to share with our readers that we have not asked you?
SM: Le District is part of the Downtown NYC community, and we want to support our local residents. Christmas time is around the corner and we want to let you know that we are offering a very special experience for our guests. It’s important to note, if you have dinner at Beaubourg restaurant after 8 pm, you will receive a gift card worth 25% of the value of your meal, valid until the end of 2019.
You can have dinner and then offer the gift card to your friends or family!
