If there’s one thing that ties your entire makeup look together, its your eyelashes. Whether you’re doing a full face of makeup or achieving that subtle natural look, it’s your lengthy voluminous lashes that culminate the look. However, mascara lovers are seldom aware that it isn’t about the product you use, it’s all about the application. There are a few ways to apply your mascara, and a few tricks to get them noticed from a distance despite their natural length. Turn your eyelashes into miniature skyscrapers and learn to channel your inner Kim Kardashian.

Tip #1:

While applying your mascara, common sentiment would suggest to pack on the product, coat by coat. But your lashes should be recognized all inclusively. Only applying the mascara to the front renders futile because you aren’t creating a voluminous effect. Rather than just stroking the brush as usual through the base of your lashes, upward, you should be applying the mascara to the opposite side. During application, tilt your head downward and begin brushing the wand downwards to coat at the back of your lashes. Most people neglect this part and leave only half of their lashes coated which only gives you 50% of the volume you wanted.

Tip #2:

Some mascaras can be loose in consistency and super liquidy. Applying coat after coat doesn’t achieve length if you just keep adding the product to your lashes. In order to generate lash length, you need the product applied to dry slightly, that way the next coat application has something substantial to grab onto. There are two things your can try that are guaranteed to work. The first: Have a fan placed in front of you. It doesn’t have to be large – in fact, you can even sit alongside your window if there’s a steady breeze. The added wind will solidify the product, allowing you to apply subsequent coats. Alternatively, you may also wait in between coats and let the mascara dry naturally. Remember, you don’t want the mascara to dry completely – only a fraction so they’re buildable.

Tip #3:

The third tip is maybe the easiest. Once your mascara is completely applied and dried, look downward, take your index finger and press the lashes into your eyelid for several seconds. Don’t press too hard, but by doing this your eyelashes instantly bend upward. The product has now dried so your lashes are easily moldable. Remember: only try this once the product has dried completely, otherwise your fingers and eyelids will be painted black and we certainly don’t want that.
