Cantina Rooftop Serves the Group Brunch You’ve Been Craving

For the most fun that can be had at brunch, we head a bit north of our comfort zone to Cantina Rooftop on 48th Street just west of 11th Avenue. What’s more fun than bottomless brunch cocktails and guacamole for breakfast?

Executive Chef Saul Montiel has put brunch favorites, including the BEC Concha (Mexican sweet bread stuffed with bacon, eggs, cheese, avocado and chipotle aioli) and Breakfast Enchiladas (filled with scrambled eggs and cheese and topped with tomatillo sauce) on the new, two course, $21 set menu.

You should definitely take advantage of one and a half hours of unlimited drinks for an additional $25 because the drink menu includes the usual mimosas and Bloodys plus frozen margaritas in inventive flavors like mango and ghost pepper or coconut and key lime.

You’ll be fully inside during the cooler months, but feel like you’re immersed in the city skyline thanks to the giant windows and clear ceiling. Bright colors and a live DJ (who is definitely having just as much or even more fun than you) set the scene as you share three flavors of guacamole, dippable tres leches french toast sticks and truffle fries with your friends. Seriously, fill up a giant table because you’re going to want to try everything on the menu!

Local Beer Gardens Guaranteed to Please

Beer gardens offer patrons more than beer alone. No matter if the pub pursues a traditional take, or follows an unorthodox approach to the classic beer garden, local beer gardens create an atmosphere where the laughs flow as freely as the beer.

Grunhaus

Sister bar to Spritzenhaus in Williamsburg, Grunhaus is one of the newest beer halls to open in NYC. It has already received glowing reviews from customers and critics alike. Everyone will find something to enjoy at Grunhaus since it offers 30 rotating beers on tap, 10 house sausages, and 10 dipping sauce options. Grunhaus, like its sister bar, is adorned with greenery and floor to ceiling windows that, weather permitting, open to the sounds of the city. At Grunhaus, patrons can enjoy their beer, with a breeze.

Clinton Hall

Clinton Hall in the financial district is famous for its comforting food. One of its most popular items is the doughnut grilled cheese. Clinton Hall forgoes the bread and replaces it with two glazed donuts. When served, the sandwich is dangled over their tomato basil soup. Occasionally the cheese waterfalls into the soup making it all the more satisfying. Clinton Hall also serves up fondue burgers, and ‘dangerously addictive donuts’ that are accompanied with caramel, Nutella, and raspberry filled syringes for guests to inject into their desert. The food is interactive, and so is the outdoor drinking area. Clinton Hall features communal style seating in a spacious area fully equipped with life-size versions of childhood games like Jenga and connect-four.

Loreley Beer Garden

This restaurant and beer garden has indoor seating and the largest heated outdoor beer garden on the Lower East Side. The outdoor seating area is furnished with wooden tables capable of seating big parties on a first come, first serve basis. The pub offers a “sausage party’ that includes a selection of 5 or 7 different sausages, and a ‘beer flight’ of several German beers. The Loreley Bar is the perfect place to catch a game and to taste a variety of authentic German specialties in an atmosphere full of camaraderie.

Pilsener Haus and Biergarten

Set in a turn-of-the-century beer hall, this bar has the ability to seat up to 400 thirsty customers at a time. Located in an abandoned factory building in Hoboken, the Austro-Hungarian garden adheres to the traditional standard by providing wooden plank tables reaching up to 40 ft in length. Prepare to be whisked away on a jovial experience that will make you question when you boarded a plane to Europe.

Pier 13

Pier 13, also in Hoboken, is a bustling hotspot in which a beer garden is just one of the many fun things to do. The pier’s beer garden is an unconventional family-friendly, outdoor bar with a backyard atmosphere. A plethora of award-winning food trucks are parked a short stroll from the drinking area, encouraging visitors to pare their brew, with some grub. The pier also offers outdoor activities like kayaking and paddle boarding nearby to enhance customers beer garden experience, and to foster the fun, summery vibe that the Pier 13 exudes.

Local pubs are bringing the joyous, and brotherly energy created by beer gardens right to NYC. Next time you see one of these neighborhood gems, grab a friend, grab a bench, and grab a beer to experience it for yourself.

Escape the City This Spring on the New Ducati Scrambler 1100

Towering skyscrapers, steamy side streets and the hustle and bustle of the city that never sleeps certainly don’t come without their charms, but every once in a while we all need an escape. Whichever direction you’re heading, if there are open highways or smooth stretches of scenic road, you’ll want to hit them on the new Ducati Scrambler 1100.

Ducati Scrambler 1100 Yellow Profile

Ducati has sold their fair share of Scramblers since they debuted them in 2015, but the new 1100 model is bigger, beefier and more advanced than its predecessors in the Scrambler family. Longer, wider and taller, the new Ducati Scrambler 1100 gives you a big bike feel without compromising its sleek retro aesthetic. Rumble through twists and turns with the air-cooled 1,079cc engine, corner confidently with the stiff suspension and advanced lean-sensitive ABS traction control, and then get back up to speed with the smooth, light-action clutch. If you’re looking for a solidly-built, minimalist bike that still comes with the bells and whistles of modern motorcycle manufacturing, the new Ducati Scrambler 1100 proves pretty stiff competition.

Ducati Scrambler 1100 Digital Gauges

City, Journey and Active are the three distinct riding modes featured on the Scrambler 1100. Journey mode is the equivalent of what we know as “touring” mode, meant for long hauls and cruising, while active is comparable to the usual “sport” mode, and tailored to more adventurous riders looking to dig into tight turns and put the engine’s 88 Newton meters of torque to good use. For those looking to get more out of their bike than weekends upstate, the Ducati Scrambler 1100 features a city mode that caps engine power to maximize fuel efficiency for short commutes or rides through the city.

The new Ducati Scrambler 1100 is available in classic ’62 yellow and shining black, and the current MSRP starts at $12,995. Learn more and find a dealer on their website. For more on the latest gear, head over to our Tech Spot.

Beating the winter blues is always tough, especially on the weekends when you don’t have a good enough reason to leave your bed. Luckily, having a wonderful city like Manhattan at your fingertips puts a positive spin on the outlook of a cold and snowy winter. Rather than falling into seasonal depression, embrace what you can do during your winter weekends in Manhattan! If you are feeling cooped up in your heated home, and are looking to be active outside, take advantage of the many ice rinks in the area! The South Street Seaport has a beautiful rink and a great location right near the water. The festive lights and decorations, reasonable fares, skating lessons, the opportunity to purchase a membership pass, or ability to make group reservations, creates a pleasing atmosphere for skaters of all ages and abilities.

If you are trying to avoid the cold, what better way then to stay indoor and informed? Spend the day at on of Manhattans many museums trickled throughout the city! It is easy to dedicated a few hours or even a whole day to admiring the exhibits in museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the American Museum of Natural History. If you are the type to be overwhelmed with the size of museums, shoot for a smaller scale one, such as the Lower East Side Tenement Museum or the Frick Collection. Although smaller in comparison to other NYC museums, they always offer fascinating collections that can keep you busy and out of the cold for hours.

Although a boat tour seems seasonally inappropriate, being inside a warm boat is a much better way to experience the greater Manhattan area. You’ll get the feel of being outside without experiencing the intensity of the windchill. Take this time to relax and enjoy the beauty that surrounds you during winters in Manhattan.

A cold winter in New York City is one of the best times for shopping, especially considering all the post-holiday sales that offer great savings. Although the Madison Avenue shops are always a good decision, they also make for a cold shopping trip. If you want to stay indoors and cover as much shopping ground as possible dedicate your spree to hours in the fabulous NYC department stores and the Shops at Columbus Circle.

Beat the winter blues with a Broadway play or musical! There’s no better way to shed your layers of warm clothing and winter accessories off to sit down and relax for a few hours. Whether it is a nighttime show or a matinee, you are guaranteed to have a great and warm time. If you don’t feel like spending the money on tickets to Broadway, but like the idea of warming up in a theatre, catch a movie! Warm Up at the Village East Cinema for a relaxing time and affordable ticket fares! Between winter activities, admiring what the city has to offer, appreciating the arts in Manhattan, and retail therapy, snowy Saturdays are sure to become one of the best and most productive parts of the week!

The beauty of New York City is the diverse options for weekend getaways in such close proximity. The Pocono Mountains, only 90 minutes from New York City, features a beautiful landscape of  rolling mountain terrain, breathtaking waterfalls, thriving woodlands and miles of winding rivers.

While the Pocono Mountains are delightful during any season, winter offers skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, and snowshoeing. After a long, eventful day filled with snow activities, the resorts and quaint bed and breakfasts offer many amenities, including luxurious special wedding and honeymoon packages.

In addition to the activities and lodging opportunities, the Poconos has exquisite cuisine to offer guests. Their restaurants include Thai, Italian, and authentic Peruvian food for those with adventurous appetites. The selection is sure to not disappoint as the restaurant scene goes above and beyond a deli or pub. Gourmet cuisine and down-home cooking are also popular choices. Recently this region has adopted a new, hip dining experience – the farm-to-table culinary trend. Many restaurants and resorts with highly skilled chefs have begun to utilize locally-sourced and organic ingredients to handcraft their menu items.

Set aside time at The Lodge at Woodloch for a weekend of relaxation and winter fun. This lodge offers a spa with many treatments, winter activities, and relaxing guest rooms with private verandas and swivel rockers. The Whisper Lounge has a crackling fireplace and outdoor porch, and offers the experience of being completely pampered.

Chefs at The Lodge at Woodloch work with local farmers to use their fresh foods and herb gardens for fresh ingredients. Their meats, poultry, and farm products come from the Lancaster areas. Guest are also able to attend weekly cooking demonstrations to learn from the expert chefs at the Lodge.

The Lodge at Woodloch offers an array of wonderful entrees. The Chilean Sea Bass is prepared with a cauliflower puree and served with grilled asparagus and roasted beet jus. The Seafood Bouillabaisse features shrimp, mussels, clams, potatoes and a saffron tomato broth. The Herb Roasted Chicken is accompanied by potatoes, baby spinach, and a port wine reduction. The decadent flourless chocolate cake with a savory strawberry sauce is so rich, it deserves its own tax bracket.

Here, dinner is an unforgettable experience, as is the whole weekend getaway. The Lodge at Woodloch is one of the most desirable winter getaways for the 2015 holiday season. Stay tuned for our next article on another luxurious location in the Pocono Mountains
