“Wanting to look your best isn’t vanity; beauty matters and it affects your overall health.” Words of wisdom spoken by Dr. Doris Day earlier today at the Energy Based skincare event. Beauty professionals and editors gathered to hear the renowned dermatologist talk about how beauty and technology make for great companions in the world of skincare.
With 6 individual treatment methods that target essential skin care concerns, each treatment is dependent on age and skincare concern, but they all work in unison as you age. Skincare tends to become a priority when our skin falls victim to loss of elasticity and the lack of collagen production. Though, Dr. Day reminds us, “what you do at 15, shows up at 50.” Skincare is a lifelong commitment and just because you’re hesitant to admit your age, your skin will speak for itself.
Isōlaz: What is it? It’s a dermatological device that uses photonematic technology to extract dirt and buildup from pores. Without the trauma of picking and scabbing your skin, this treatment limits the possibility of acne scarring and dark spots. By sending a blast of light to the follicle, Isōlaz kills bacteria that contributes acne. The extraction sessions vary based on individual severity of acne. However, Isōlaz is also a great device for facials, Day states, “teenagers come in to treat their acne, and then moms stay because it does deep pore cleansing for them as well.” This brief treatment takes about 15-20 minutes to complete.
Clear + Brilliant: What is it? It includes texture and tone of the skin. This laser emits wavelengths into your skin and ultimately evens skin tone by reducing marks left after acne. While Isōlaz may attempt to prevent the scars from ever happening, sometimes we can’t control the inevitable. This device works to eliminate the damage, as well as helping your skin age successfully. It’s primary focus is exfoliating the skin, removing sun damage and reducing the cells that cause skin cancer. This device can be used on a regular basis for optimal results, in addition to regular use of sunscreen.
Fraxel: What is it? A trifecta of lasers which all combat something different. The first target area is pigmentation, going a bit deeper than Clear + Brilliant for dark spots. Dr. Day recommends to pair it with antioxidants for best results. But as a general warning, for the first 3-5 days of use, Fraxel will cause your skin to look a little flaky, that just means it’s getting the job done. Fraxel’s next level is a nonablative which means that the process is different than regular laser treatments and allows you to still wear makeup after the procedure has been completed. The nonablative helps with textural changes in the skin. Last, the most intense level of Fraxel is geared toward those who have extreme sun damage. It delves deep into the skin to restore younger skin from years of sun exposure.
Liposonix: What is it? An FDA approved radio frequency device that targets and liquifies fat in a safe way.
Thermage: What is it? Another radio frequency machine, but rather than melting away fat, this machine aims to tighten. The peek age to begin is around 30 years old, which is typically when most of Day’s patients begin to feel their skin lose it’s plumpness. This device stimulates new collagen, though, it’s always better to start younger because your skin is regularly producing ample collagen. The idea is to avoid falling behind, because then you’ll need to take more drastic measures and consider cosmetic surgery. With Thermage, you can keep skin where it needs to be!
“I think the main thing is to understand a broader age coming in, it’s both men and women, it’s understanding that beauty is inside and out, and understanding that there is so much you can do, so much you can ask your doctor about, but nothing replaces a few things…” stated Day. She advised that sleep, reducing and managing stress and a good diet are imperative to in home skincare.
While we can’t avoid lack of sleep, stress overloads and the occasional yet guilty fast food run, the aforementioned devices are here to counteract the damage that’s effected our skin.
