Summer Streets

Now in its 10th year, Summer Streets is a large scale block party that celebrates New York’s best feature – its streets. The goal is to remind New Yorkers that the concrete jungle is also a playground. Starting at Brooklyn Bridge and extending to Central Park, the streets will close to traffic and open to arts and crafts workshops, biking, musical performances, dancing, healthy foods, rock climbing, meditation, obstacle courses, an awesome zipline and the brand new, all-inflated LG Quadwash Water Park. Where: Check website for locations
When: Saturday, Aug. 5, 12 and 19 from 7am-1pm

New Cream Cheese Sweet Shop

New Yorkers take cream cheese on a bagel or in a cheesecake. Becky’s Bites, a new cream cheese sweet shop, is giving New Yorkers more cream cheese options. The shop’s motto is “cream cheese reimagined,” and its chocolate-covered cream cheese balls, tarts, cookie bites and mini bagels feature cream cheese flavors like apple pie, cappuccino, cookies-and-cream and even bacon, egg and cheese.

Where: Becky’s Bites NYC (East Village), 122 E. 7th Street, New York, NY 10009
When: Monday-Wednesday from 8am-11pm; Thursday-Friday from 8am-12am; Saturday from 9am-12am; Sunday from 9am-11pm

New Custom Beauty Bar

St. Ives summer pop-up shop in SoHo lets you customize your own scrub or body lotion using dozens of all natural ingredients. Add a little ginger, a dash of volcanic sand, some kale and papaya to create signature beauty products.

Where: St. Ives Mixing Bar (Soho), 577 Broadway, New York, NY 10012
When: Monday-Saturday from 11am-9pm; Sunday from 11am-8pm (through Saturday, Sep. 30)

New Korean Gastropub

In this gorgeous atrium-like space, the wrought iron is softened by floral and ivy motifs and a clean white interior. Ms Yoo feels both open and intimate. It’s a perfect place to spend a few hours sipping yummy specialty cocktails (Between the Knees is divine)  and munching on Korean bar bites. Try the Squid Fries, Korean Fried Feet or the Honey Butter Chips… but the bar’s 10oz burger, topped with kimchi bacon onion jam and american cheese, is worth the splurge.

Where: Ms Yoo (Lower East Side), 163 Allen Street, New York, NY 10002
When: Tuesday-Sunday from 5pm-12am

Meditation and Tai Chi on the Highline

Yeah, “these streets will make you feel brand new/The lights will inspire you,” but let’s be real, New York is a stressful place and we all need a break from its madness. Solution: meet us on the Highline for weekly guided meditations. Those needing extra relief can stay for the Tai Chi session with Taoist Tai Chi Society. FREE

Where: The Highline at 22nd Street (Chelsea)
When: Tuesdays from 8-9am and from 9:30-10:30am
