Downtown Highlights: Dirt Candy

by | Jul 21, 2015 | Uncategorized

Dirt Candy, owned by Chef Amanda Cohen, is an award winning vegetarian restaurant on the Lower East Side, and was the first vegetarian restaurant in 17 years to receive two stars from the New York Times.

Well known to locals and foodies throughout New York City, chef and owner, Amanda Cohen heightened her profile after becoming the first vegetarian chef to compete on Food Network’s Iron Chef America.

Each dish is a veritable celebration of vegetables and gives instant gratification to diners’ taste buds. Dishes frequently highlight a single vegetable, with Amanda allowing the vegetable a chance to truly shine, as the star of the plate.

Broccoli lovers can have their own Coney Island experience, with a grilled and smoked broccoli dog; complete with broccoli kraut and mustard barbecue sauce. And for fans of taco Tuesdays, Brussels sprout tacos served on a sizzling stone with lettuce wrappers is a good option to explore.

You can give any of these dishes a try on your own by purchasing the Dirt Candy cookbook that was written by Amanda Cohen herself.
