Nestled on the corner of South St. and John St. is El Luchador, one of our favorite Mexican lunch spots Downtown.

El Luchador has only been open for two months but it is already making a name for itself in the Downtown community.  Specializing in authentic Mexican cuisine, El Luchador offers a variety of traditional Mexican dishes, including tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and soups.

El Luchador, meaning “the wrestler”, carries its theme beyond décor, which features the image of a traditional Mexican wrestling mask throughout the restaurant and branding.  El Luchador incorporates their wrestling theme into the menu, pitting their burritos against their tacos.  Who will win?  That’s for the customers to decide.

Their signature dish, the braised short rib burrito, has helped earn El Luchador the title of best Mexican food downtown.  The short ribs are cooked to perfection and are perfectly accompanied by black beans, cilantro-lime rice, monterey jack cheese, and Mexican crema. This delicious burrito is a must have El Luchador specialty, but make sure you get there early; El Luchador only makes 50 short rib orders a day, so be sure to get yours before they’re gone.

The pollo asado burrito, made with grilled adobo chicken, is a customer favorite and one of their best selling menu items.  The chicken is deliciously seasoned and incredibly juicy, setting this burrito apart from the other chicken burritos downtown.  For those who prefer tacos to burritos, you can get your chicken fix with their adobo-grilled chicken taco.  With chopped onion, cilantro, and chipotle-tomatillo salsa, this taco is sure to satisfy.

El Luchador is thrilled to be a part of the thriving Downtown community and the up and coming Seaport area.  “I look at Downtown as a very big opportunity to do business,” said a representative from the restaurant. “Its an upcoming place.  Especially after Sandy, 9/11, the whole downtown, it didn’t come back up at all until now.  Were trying to start building it back up….the city is not going to let it die.”

For your next lunch break, head down to El Luchador and enjoy some of their delicious, authentic Mexican dishes.  Whether prefer tacos in the airstream out front, or a burrito on a barstool inside, you will be sure to have a memorable, delicious meal at El Luchador.
